If you follow Cake Wrecks then you'll see the Sweet counterpart to this tomorrow, but for now, here's the song I've been singing myself all week. It made me feel a bit better in my "stuck" times, so I hope it does the same for you.
(Hit play, then start scrolling.)
It's not that easy bein' me
Having to spend each day
thinking all I ought to be
When I think it could be nicer
Bein' strong or clever or bold
Or something much more colorful like that
It's not easy bein' "Me"
It seems you blend in with so
Many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're
Not standin' out like flashy
Sparkles on the water
Or stars in the sky
But "Me" is how I'm made to be
And "Me" can be cool and friendly-like
And "Me" can be strong as a lover
Or clever as a writer
And bold in-between
When "Me" is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why
But why wonder, why wonder?
I am me, and it'll do fine
It's beautiful
And I think it's what I want to be

I like to think Kermit would approve of my little re-write.

P.S. Today's the last day to become a February Squeegineer! Thank you to everyone who's helped support me and John this month through Paypal, but remember you can also enter our monthly give-away through e-mail, details here.
That was very sweet. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteI love this so so much.
ReplyDeleteYou make me laugh, or "OH WOW!", or say to myself "These people are so clever, how do they think of it all?" every time I visit, you are always a fun place to dock in a sea of really not a lot of good internet-y places. You always seem quite gracious, and very generous with the things you discover, share, know, and teach.
For all of those things, and for the light you shine on people who struggle, for your compassion, you deserve a freakin' parade, or a plate of brownies, and all the tenderness and hugs. Thank you for being so *you*.
I would love you as a neighbor...a compliment I don't just toss around to anyone. I know you haven't got a clue who I am, but please know there are many of us who just adore you and wish you every good thing...even down time.
This was the most lovely thing to sit down to this afternoon, especially before starting my CW work day, which is always hard. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
DeleteLOVE THIS! Kermit would definitely approve.
ReplyDeleteRight in the feels. I just had a blast with a new "tribe" I met recently, and I'm trying to shut my inner monologue up because they're not how "adults" should be. But it made me so happy to be around them- why should I care if they don't fit the mold? Why should I care if I don't fit the mold?
ReplyDeleteFitting the mold is boring. Break it. Be around others who break it. Shine the light of YOU being YOU so others know they're allowed to break their molds, too!
DeleteAnd go high-five that new tribe of yours for me. I bet they're awesome.
LOVE! Thanks for this, and I hope you realise how awesome you are for the rest of us! Hugs :)
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't heard of it before, I'd recommend a short little book called "Before you Leap", it's an in-character biography of Kermit, where he shares a few life lessons. I read it years and years ago and really liked it, it's still sitting on my shelf actually, maybe it's time for another read through!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful rewrite!! And yes, Kermit would approve.
ReplyDeleteThat was really beautiful. Yep, I reckon you should keep on being you - you bring a lot of joy to the world.
ReplyDeleteThat was precious and gave me goosebumps. Thanks so much for sharing!
