Jen's Gems: Sassy Hufflepuffs, Disney Smiles, & Cosplay Goals

Some of my favorite finds from around the web this week:

First up, more greatness from The Replica Prop Forum on Facebook. RPF member Jer Lee made not one, but two Black Panther costumes for his daughter: as one of the Dora Milaje *and* as Shuri!

I actually haven't seen Black Panther yet, but I'm loving all the rave reviews of the bad-ass lady fighters in the film, and these cosplays are simply epic.

Bonus: when I checked Jer's FB to get his name right I discovered he's been in the habit of being an amazing geek Dad for a while now:

 YESSSSS.

This... this makes my heart full, you guys. Full and happy. Way to go, Jer.

Have I mentioned Cheryl Walsh's photography here before? I can't remember. Either way, you should see this prettiness:

That's a photo! Can you believe it?

Walsh specializes in underwater photography featuring lots of mermaids and fantasy flowy dresses and loveliness. This is the header on her Facebook page:

Go follow her for more magic.

For some laughs, let's kick it over to the comedic genius that is Sailor J on Youtube. This woman defies description, mostly because it's hard to describe someone while you're giggle-snorting. And while her Hufflepuff video arguably isn't her best one, it is GOLD and every Potter head should watch:

To be fair she has videos for all the Houses, I just think she captures the sweet sass of the 'Puffs especially well.

Now here's her best/most popular one - but BE YE WARNED, there is lots of NSFW language, so watch your volume and/or kids nearby:

Over on Instagram I started following Disney Lifestylers, which posts all sorts of new Disney accessories, toys, clothing, etc:

And you've seen the new interactive Chewbacca doll that just debuted at the New York Toy Fair, right?

SO CUTE

In TV news, if you have Netflix I recommend checking out the kids' film Mune:

This movie is visually stunning, and I couldn't get enough of the mythology and world building. There's a girl made of wax, a faun who can control dreams, and a lion(?) man made of translucent quartz. It reminds me a little of Rise of the Guardians, except there are no humans. It's pure alien fantasy in the best way.

Plus Mune is actually entertaining, with plenty of action and funny moments to move the beauty shots along. Granted, I watched this when I was sick last week, so my standards may have been a LITTLE low, but the evil sidekick who loves flowers cracked me up.

Then there are adorable spider-tribble-things that look like Furbys, which I totally want to make now:
So yeah, put that one in your queue, and/or go watch it with your kids.

And finally, let's ends with a jump cute. That's like a jump scare, except instead of being scared you're overcome with the intense desire to snuggle a baby kangaroo:

MUST SNUGGLE NOW PLEASE. Those ears! Ack!

And finally finally, let's announce this month's art winners!

The winner of "Date Night" is Corryn Anderson

The winner of "Oswald" is Alyssa Cooper

And my wildcard winner is the Jessica who said she wanted the armless Wam-Pal

Congrats, you three, and please e-mail me your mailing addresses!

  1. I would thank you for introducing me to Sailor J's videos (I haven't laughed that hard for ages!), but now I've just spent nearly an hour watching more of them on her channel, and I'm pretty sure my boss will classify that as time 'wasted'...

Ooh, she also has life advice! I'm sure that could be argued as educational!

  2. Like Susan I loved Sailor J. The more I watched the more I realize she reminded me of myself at her age. Ahh to be young again.

  9. I got to pet a baby kangaroo last year, and oh my gosh she was the softest thing ever! Definitely would recommend baby 'roo snuggles!

  11. That daughter is fierce! I love her She-Ra. Also, I got to pet a kangaroo last year. They are indescribably soft. Seriously. Think of the softest thing you've ever felt and it is a million times softer than that. I also learned that I am allergic to kangaroos. I have the dumbest allergies. But if you ever get a chance, go pet one!

(And yes, I deleted a previous comment. Technology is not my friend today.)

  16. Yes, please go see Black Panther. The story is great, there are SO MANY strong women, and I never cried over a villain before, but I did in this one.

  17. I watched Mune the other night on your recommendation--Thank you!! It was lovely, and I so enjoyed a "safe" and enjoyable story with beautiful imagery. It was exactly what I needed in the midst of a hard week.
