[Posting this here in addition to Facebook, just so I know you all get to see it.]
I popped online today to tell you guys what a surprisingly delightful holiday weekend I've just had with family & friends - only to see the news about Carrie Fisher, and how nearly all my geek friends are grieving, and grieving hard.
So just know I love you guys, and this community loves you, and we're here for you. It's OK to be sad, it's also OK to celebrate and be thankful for lives well lived. Heck, it's OK to look at other things and laugh and just not think about sad stuff today. After this year, I think we've earned that.
Many squishy virtual hugs from me and John, who says I can post this picture now, because we're *pretty* sure it'll make you smile.
I just saw Rogue 1 today. Complete strangers were sharing the news about her death with others in the theater. The mood was subdued. But you are right; it is Ok to smile :
ReplyDeleteI came here in hopes that you had posted something about Carrie Fisher, something comforting, and yep, Jen, you did. That goofy photo made me crack a smile after a really rough couple of days--oh heck, a rough YEAR. Thank you for the gentle reminder that it's okay for us to have many emotions, all at once, swirling and bubbling up at will, no matter what or why.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's really, really helpful to be told it's okay to smile. Thanks, Jen.
ReplyDelete<3 Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'm so grateful for you both and for the laughs via Cakewrecks, the crafting and sharing via Epbot, and the sense of belonging in these communities. (and the smile-inducing picture of john!)

Thank you for posting here, as I'm not on facebook. Thank you for thinking of us folks (I'm sure I'm not the only one)who don't "get" facebook. It's been a year...but there's always reason to smile.
ReplyDeleteI just saw Carrie Fisher on the Graham Norton show this past week.
Leonard Cohen, one of my favorite favorites was the biggest shock. I miss him. I feel like I have to wake up every morning and check on people like Simon and Garfunkel and Jimmy Buffett...all my faves are getting up there in age...but Carrie Fisher should have had years and years left.
The gif starts with just you, then goes on to be all of us smiling with you! Thanks so very much!

Awesome, wonderful, smiling!
ReplyDeleteYep, smiling after this post. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI add my thanks to that of @Betty Martin, for those of us who don't have Facebook accounts.
ReplyDeleteOkay, is it just me, or does John's picture appear to move? ('Cause I may be coming down with a fever, and fevers tend to make me see things.) Not the way pictures move in the Harry Potter universe...but kinda?
Thanks, Jen, for sharing and creating smiles! Life is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHahahahahahaha! Thanks for the silly picture.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the silly picture, it is what I (and many others) needed today. So glad to hear you had a good weekend with family and friends!
