"Headphones" Makes Me Happy

I'd heard this song on the radio once or twice before - and liked it - but it wasn't until John showed me the official video last night that I realized I LOVED it. And I'm sure the fact that I was crying happy tears by the end had nothing to do with that. Nothing at all.

It struck a chord for obvious reasons, what with John still waiting to see if he'll get all his hearing back from that surgery, but I think it'll grab pretty much anyone with ears and a heart. Check it out:

Gah. SO GOOD.

Plus it reminded me of of these two prints my friend Bianca just released:

(Or the original is still available for $75!)

I like how she's jamming out with her left hand; like she's conducting the music in her head. :)

Welp, John and I are on to the paint stage for that new cabinet he's building, so I'm off to go help supervise.

Happy Tuesday, guys!

    1. Who was I kidding? I already love this song, of course I couldn't wait to watch the video. And now I'm wiping the tears that won't stop dripping. I don't usually buy music videos, but I'm headed to iTunes to buy this one. 100% of artist and label proceeds are being donated to the Starkey Foundation.

  5. So, so great. My friend's daughter was born with maybe 20% normal hearing. Last year she had cochlear implants and for a month, just after they were turned on, I babysat her. It was amazing to see (and help in a small way) her language skills develop and even to just see her turn her head at an unexpected noise. Crying and not ashamed!

  8. Totally sobbing, I should have paid a little more attention to your intro and grabbed a box of tissues!

On a side note, I am irritated with Blogger because they occasionally drop you from my feed for no discernible reason. I have taken to just typing your web address in the search bar and now "e" pulls up Epbot!

  10. Seriously... each and everyone one of them, but especially that little boy at the end - just the way their faces lit up. I can't imagine what it must feel like for them. It's beautiful. I'm rambling. Point being, thanks for sharing. I wouldn't have seen this if you hadn't posted it.

  16. I used to go see Matt Nathanson in tiny dive bars in college, where he'd hang around after his set. He's absolutely as nice as he seems and I'm so glad anytime he gets any exposure!

  17. I was holding it together until the little boy in the red shirt - totally weeping now.

  18. Oh, I love Matt - he gives a really good concert, if you have a chance to go. And when he comes to my area, at least, he's generally in those big amphitheaters where you can get a lawn seat. I already have a ticket for June!

  21. Wow! It is so easy to get overwhelmed watching something like that! Those people working the event must feel so happy at the end of the day!

  22. I'm... No, there are many things wrong with this. I'm glad so many people are touched. I don't want to type a novel here, but... Life is SO much more complicated than what this feel-good video lets on. I know. Enjoy the moment, but someday learn more about hearing loss and the deeper more complicated issues this video glosses over.

  23. Also, the art reminded me of this... my favorite picture of Ariel with headphones.

  24. Aaaaah.... Now you made me weepy!
But seriously, this video and song feel super duper important to me for more than one reason. There's the message of the vid, of course, but then there are the lyrics. You see, I suffer from depression and social phobias; I can barely go out in public because if I hear people talking on the street or looking at me, I become convinced that they're talking about me, laughing at me, and that everybody knows that I' a huge failure.
Unless... you guessed it... I have my headphones on. They act as a wall between me and the world outside, help me focus, and my view of the world is heavily influenced by the music I put on - which means I can control my moods and overcome my fears without meds.
Sorry for being so long-winded. I just can't thank you enough for showing this to me.
Brb gonna cry while I listen to it on repeat.
