I'd heard this song on the radio once or twice before - and liked it - but it wasn't until John showed me the official video last night that I realized I LOVED it. And I'm sure the fact that I was crying happy tears by the end had nothing to do with that. Nothing at all.
It struck a chord for obvious reasons, what with John still waiting to see if he'll get all his hearing back from that surgery, but I think it'll grab pretty much anyone with ears and a heart. Check it out:
Gah. SO GOOD.
Plus it reminded me of of these two prints my friend Bianca just released:
Listen to Wonderland, $15
(Or the original is still available for $75!)
Under the Sea, $15
I like how she's jamming out with her left hand; like she's conducting the music in her head. :)
Welp, John and I are on to the paint stage for that new cabinet he's building, so I'm off to go help supervise.
Happy Tuesday, guys!
You just unlocked a new cool level in my game Jen! Matt Nathanson is my very favorite!! I was confused as to why my MN stories were mixed in with my Epbot feed but it's just you being awesome!
ReplyDeleteThat video made me cry at my desk :)
ReplyDeleteI love this song! I can't watch the video at work if it's a cry bomb, but will definitely check it out later. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWho was I kidding? I already love this song, of course I couldn't wait to watch the video. And now I'm wiping the tears that won't stop dripping. I don't usually buy music videos, but I'm headed to iTunes to buy this one. 100% of artist and label proceeds are being donated to the Starkey Foundation.
DeleteThe feels seem to have invaded my study space and my eyes.
ReplyDeleteSo, so great. My friend's daughter was born with maybe 20% normal hearing. Last year she had cochlear implants and for a month, just after they were turned on, I babysat her. It was amazing to see (and help in a small way) her language skills develop and even to just see her turn her head at an unexpected noise. Crying and not ashamed!
ReplyDeleteI just bought that little mermaid print a couple weeks ago at portland comicon. She had so much gorgeous art I wanted it all!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. :) I'm glad you enjoyed my artwork. BTW you guys have the most interesting donuts in the world.
Delete-Bianca
hmm.. did it post the comment or not? IT elves.. let me in ^^ but... what did i wnat to write? ah yes.... video is unfortunatly blocked in germany... again.. *harumph*
ReplyDelete.. nevermind.. found a way to watch it anyway *secretly whipes away a little tear* big grin here ^^
DeleteTotally sobbing, I should have paid a little more attention to your intro and grabbed a box of tissues!
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, I am irritated with Blogger because they occasionally drop you from my feed for no discernible reason. I have taken to just typing your web address in the search bar and now "e" pulls up Epbot!
Made me cry. So not ashamed. Thanks Jen.
ReplyDeleteSeriously... each and everyone one of them, but especially that little boy at the end - just the way their faces lit up. I can't imagine what it must feel like for them. It's beautiful. I'm rambling. Point being, thanks for sharing. I wouldn't have seen this if you hadn't posted it.
ReplyDeleteGah! Thanks a lot for making me cry first thing in the morning. The little boy with Downs hearing for the first time, the look on his face really got me. But seriously, I now want to send them all my money. What a wonderful way to reduce world suck.
ReplyDeleteYep, that little boy with Downs is the one that got me too!
DeleteYep, teary here too. That was lovely.
ReplyDeleteMan! I new I would be touched, but now I'm sitting here crying. A lot. <3
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see an update on John, I was wondering how things were going for him post-surgery. Still sending positive thoughts his way!
ReplyDeleteYep, nothing to see here, just a bit of dust in my eyes. *sniff sniff, wipe wipe* Wow, thanks for sharing this, Jen!
ReplyDeleteI used to go see Matt Nathanson in tiny dive bars in college, where he'd hang around after his set. He's absolutely as nice as he seems and I'm so glad anytime he gets any exposure!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, that tiny boy...Sniffle.
ReplyDeleteI was holding it together until the little boy in the red shirt - totally weeping now.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love Matt - he gives a really good concert, if you have a chance to go. And when he comes to my area, at least, he's generally in those big amphitheaters where you can get a lawn seat. I already have a ticket for June!
ReplyDeleteThe little boy at 3:23 stole my heart.
ReplyDeleteThis video is soul food. Ohhhh, the feels. Good happy cry.
ReplyDeleteWow! It is so easy to get overwhelmed watching something like that! Those people working the event must feel so happy at the end of the day!
ReplyDeleteI'm... No, there are many things wrong with this. I'm glad so many people are touched. I don't want to type a novel here, but... Life is SO much more complicated than what this feel-good video lets on. I know. Enjoy the moment, but someday learn more about hearing loss and the deeper more complicated issues this video glosses over.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the art reminded me of this... my favorite picture of Ariel with headphones.

Aaaaah.... Now you made me weepy!
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, this video and song feel super duper important to me for more than one reason. There's the message of the vid, of course, but then there are the lyrics. You see, I suffer from depression and social phobias; I can barely go out in public because if I hear people talking on the street or looking at me, I become convinced that they're talking about me, laughing at me, and that everybody knows that I' a huge failure.
Unless... you guessed it... I have my headphones on. They act as a wall between me and the world outside, help me focus, and my view of the world is heavily influenced by the music I put on - which means I can control my moods and overcome my fears without meds.
Sorry for being so long-winded. I just can't thank you enough for showing this to me.
Brb gonna cry while I listen to it on repeat.
