Will I ever get tired of steampunk jewelry?
SIGNS POINT TO NO.
So come, glory in my addiction with me!
These steampunk "mad scientist" necklaces from Michelle of Steel Hip Design are blowing my mind:
I lost hours drooling over everything in Michelle's shop, so brace yourself, and then go see. Her winged hearts are the most popular, and it's easy to see why.
This one makes me want to swish around in giant satin skirts:
Already sold, but I love this design by luminoddities:
I especially like the idea of incorporating old family photos into your jewelry!
One of the best (if not THE best) zeppelin necklaces I've found:
Zeppelin Flying Machine Necklace, $29 by UraniaArt
I only wish it came in more colors!

AlteredHistoryDesign has a few military-style pins perfect for steampunk, and this one in particular caught my eye:
Submariner Pin in Bronze, $12.95
This one's an upcycled drawer pull, so it's pretty big, but what a cool idea!
Speaking of big, this central gear seems like it might be a little scratchy, but WOW :
Victoriana Necklace, $68.73
Gorgeous!
I've shared GreenTreeJewelry's gorgeous kinetic wing gear pendant before, but I don't remember seeing this sweet propeller design before now:
Radial Propeller Engine Pendant, $35

This next cuff is made from old harness leather, and has the most brilliant key-clasp I've ever seen:
The key is attached with a riveted penny on one side, and then hooks on the other to close the cuff. BRILLIANT.
And for a bit of sparkle:

I suppose I should be grateful this next one is sold, too, or else I'd be out some serious cash right now:
Musical Pendant Sculptural Necklace, by faefactory, already sold
It's a tiny working music box! Or not the box, but the little cranky thing that goes inside. Um. I am not feeling so good with the words today. o.0

There are still a few similar designs available, though, like this one for $149:
And finally, my favorite designer Friston has a few more beauties available:
Generally eye jewelry kinda freaks me out, I'm kind of falling for this pin:
Regal Brooch P412, $75
I have a couple of Friston's cuffs and big statement necklaces (including this one framed on my nightstand), and just adore them. Can't say enough good things about his work.
K, that's it for me! Happy weekend, everyone!
Those two mad scientist ones are so intricate and cute!! I'm definitely checking out the artist's site.
ReplyDeleteJen, You can buy those music boxes quite easily online, and they don't cost all that much.
ReplyDeleteThis one looks pretty cool, I thin it's a bit more steampunk then the one shown actually:

And this one looks the same as the one in the picture. They make them to play all sort of songs too, so loads of choice:

I hope that helps, The pendants don't look like they'd be impossible to make, as long as you had the music box. :)
Oooh, thanks for the links! This definitely needs investigating...
DeleteAlso here, http://www.klockit.com/depts/MusicMovements/dept-166.html and cheaper!
DeleteJust Google 'music box movements' and you should be able to find pretty much anything you want.

ReplyDeleteJen, I was wondering how often you actually wear large necklaces. I'm around 5'2 and find that they totally overwhelm me. I get the impression from previous posts that you're shorter than I am, no? How do you pull off statement pieces? I love them, but always feel kind of silly in them. My solution has always been to throw on 3-6 smaller necklaces-- somehow separate pieces seem to work better--but I'd love to be able to wear some of the bigger pieces. How do you do it?
ReplyDeleteThat airship one is fantastic! I recognize the orange swirl bead in the center- if only I'd bought some when I had the chance!
ReplyDeleteSuch cool finds, love them! I can see the components that went into the zeppelin, I love when jewelers make something different with something common, like these jellyfish made with bead caps by Robot Princess: Aquamachine Jellyfish Earrings
ReplyDeleteI think I need that ring. Like, NEED.
ReplyDeleteHey, It's the Eye of Sauron (or perhaps his girlfriend... Does Sauron have a girlfriend? These are the kind of geeky thoughts that keep me up at night). That was my first thought when seeing the eye pin. I think that would make it easier to go for the Eye jewelry. :)
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL
ReplyDeleteAll very beautiful, especially the (not drawer pull) lampshade finial one. Floor lamps of old used to have finials on top of the lamp-shade framework to hold them to the lamp, not sure if modern ones do, the lampshade would sit on a bolt attached to a "Harp" which fits around the bulb, the finial would hold the shade in place (the bolt goes through where the crystal is placed) and look pretty on top.
