Awesome Etsy Finds

Etsy has this new(ish) feature that encourages you to "follow" other members with similar taste, and I could swear some of the accounts being recommended are some of you Epbot readers trying to punk me. That, or there are a lot more seahorse, steampunk, and Portal-loving geek girls out there with a penchant for teals, oranges, and funky purses shaped like Daleks than I thought. (Seriously, it's SCARY.)

Anyway, thanks to a few of these new-found shopping soul mates I've been on an Etsy binge, and lookie at all the goodies I found!

These are actually photographs of vintage keys applied to thin birch wood and cut out with a laser cutter. Considering how expensive real typewriter keys are getting, think of the possibilities. (Plus they also come in white!)

I've featured this seller's gorgeous Hedwig necklace before, but now I think I need the set. I know there are lots of snitch necklaces out there, but this is my new favorite.

That's it. I need to take up table top gaming.

This next find is actually a whole shop of tiny wearable gadgets, from working lighters to compasses to UV detector necklaces. It's total gadget geek heaven.

 Compass Necklace, $12.99

And it comes with an equally tiny glass bottle of ink!

Moving on to a little pony sweetness:

And in the crazy-expensive-but-we-can-still-dream category:

"The Alchemist's Daughter," spherical leather-and-metal bag, $306

It comes in either black-and-silver or brown-and-brass, and sweet Staypuft is that gorgeous!

On the more affordable steampunk front:

There are several different styles at the shop, too.

Then there are the steampunk notebooks of Diarment Creations:

Would you believe that's all made of cardboard? 'Cuz I'm not sure I do. o.0

They average between $25 and $30, really reasonable for such a work of art. They seem to sell faster than I can keep up, so check his shop for what's available. (There's also this fantastic globe over there, but John says I'm developing a globe problem and can't buy any more. HARRUMPH.)

Adorbz. Need I say more?

And finally, something I'd love to see more of on Etsy: craft kits!

LOVE.

Apparently it comes with all the felt, ribbon, & crepe paper you need, plus that little green sprig and a pattern with instructions, of course. I do wish the seller specified what else you need besides "basic craft supplies," but for $10, not sure I can complain much. ;)

Ok, my friends, guess I'll leave you to enjoy the rest of your online retail therapy session. Have fun, and try not to break the bank!

  1. You're not a tabletop gamer? We seriously need to hang out next time I'm in Orlando. Let me show you the way of the tabletop gamer geek.

  5. A few years ago we bought Catan and now all of our friends & family are majorly addicted to board games. Our favorites are Catan, 7 Wonders, Munchkin, and Castle Panic. I think you'd love any of them!

    2. I just watched Wil Wheaton's Tabletop shows on Castle Panic and Ticket to Ride and can't wait to play them! Munchkin is good fun too. Lately we've been playing a lot of both Gloom and Pandemic; highly recommended!

    3. Also, I can't recommend King of Tokyo enough as a quick and dirty intro to tabletop gaming or an awesomely fun filler game between longer games or while you're setting up, packing up, what have you. It's so fun and despite it being a dice game there's a lot of strategy (especially if you pick up the expansions later on). Just a great all around game.

    4. Jennifer ~ Oh yes, Ticket to Ride is great too! And pretty friendly to non-gamers too. I really love playing the app too because it marks all your cities for you!

JayMariah ~ Pandemic is fun but so hard! If you like that one you should check out the Plague Inc. app, where the roles are reversed. You are the disease and your goal is wiping out humanity!! (Also, have you checked out Forbidden Island? It has a similar gameplay to Pandemic but simpler to play)

Jessica ~ My husband has been eying King of Tokyo for a while!

  6. I seriously love me some Etsy! They cater to weirdos of all kinds. You can request the strangest things and an artist out there will make it for you. I once requested T4 Bacteriophage earrings, and an artist special made it for me. She was so smitten by the design, she ended up making a bunch and selling out quickly. My husband the PhD nerd gave other nerds the link and they all went ballistic! :)

  8. Etsy is so dangerous! It is so easy to spend hours browsing. This store has amazing steampunk and Doctor Who necklaces, which I indulged in recently. Waiting for my tax return before I allow myself to go shopping again!

  10. Hey, if you and John wanna get in on some sweet Tabletop gaming action, let me know! I'm local, and totally not a crazy person, and I love tabletop games, and I've been lacking a group of people to game with. So, yeah. I'm not desperate at all. -sigh-

  13. Seriously love these goodies, but having read the MLP fanfiction "Cupcakes" (fair warning, it is ALL sorts of wrong) I recoiled in horror at the card. But it's so pretty! But it's cupcakes! But it's so pretty!

    1. Yep. Had to stop at that cupcake print. Don't find it. Don't read it. Don't even think about it. Whatever you do. It will ruin Pinkie Pie for you for a long, long, long time. Possibly forever. Gah.

  17. Have you heard about the new Etsy guidelines? It happened late last year so I'm late to the party, but just wondering if you have any thoughts on it. It seems like it could make it tough to know if we are actually getting a handmade item or not.

  19. I've just found the " White Rabbit Alice in Wonderland E PATTERN " on Etsy.
it costs €4,46 and I don't think that the supplies are included, it says "The pattern contains complete instructions and pattern pieces". This little rabbit is so cute... thank you for sharing.
