BEHOLD THE SEXINESS!!
Next Jordan took a turn climbing that big tree to get this shot:
Now, after the shoot I realized I didn't like certain aspects of my costume, so I changed some things like the hat, skirt, hair, and accessories. Because of that, you'll have to wait for me to upload my final version photos to see more of the details. (Sorry!)
I'd also like to point out that it's really hard to post personal costume pictures without posting pictures of yourself wearing the costume - a serious drawback. Next time I'll just have to make a steampunk gas mask to hide behind. You know, to maintain my air of mystique. [eyebrow waggle]
And to make up for the lack of more costume pics, here it is at last: my pride and joy, my one and only, my finished ray gun:
I love this thing SO MUCH. And since John did most of the hard stuff, following my drawings and directions, I told him it's my anniversary present. Thirteen years is traditionally sci-fi weaponry, right?
Oh, and I'll be sure to include a video of her in action when I post the tutorial, so you can see the light effect. I think you're gonna liiiiike it! [sing-song]
Hope these pics help tide you over 'til I get more of my Dragon*Con photo haul sorted and uploaded. And 'til I can process enough of the crazy wonderful things that happened to me to relate them properly.
'Til then, my friends!
I love you guys. Great photos. Can't wait to see the rest!
ReplyDeletelove the photos, you two look GREAT (John does look rather scrumptious-truly!). Can't wait to see the ray gun in action!
ReplyDeleteI don't mean to be creepy in any way, but... WOW, you are ADORABLE. Costume looks good too!
ReplyDeleteOMG! Great photos and I can't wait to see what you have in store!
ReplyDeleteBTW, y'all are such a CUTE couple!!!! Aaaaand it's nice to see your faces... I was beginning to think you didn't have one! Anywho...keep up the good work!
-Kati
Thirteen years is totally sci-fi weaponry! And fifteen years is big metal chickens. :D
ReplyDeleteYou guys look amazing! I'm in awe! I always love living vicariously through your con experiences.
You guys look AMAZING! Can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteYou both look great! But I have to tell you that the first thing I thought when I looked at the second picture is how beautiful you are. As my kids used to say when they were young --- dead drop gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! You and John are so cute, and very cool!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh you guys are adorable!
ReplyDeleteWow you look AWESOME!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I totes want your ray gun. That bad boy is well cool!! Any chance of a tutorial for something similar :D
Awww...you two are adorable! Hope you had a 'blast' at Dragon Con.
ReplyDeleteWow! Such cool costumes and I LOVE your ray gun and holster. I can't wait to see more.
ReplyDeleteif you wear a gas mask in one of these lovely photos of your gorgeous self, i will ask "are you my mummy" (because all i can think of when i see a gas mask now is that episode of DW)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see!! I looked for you all weekend and apparently, I was always a hotel behind you!
ReplyDeleteUgh! Maybe next year!
Steampunk gas mask...you mean like this one on etsy?
ReplyDeleteI love this artist's work. His filigree leather masks are beautiful and his steampunk plague docotor's masks and gas masks are simply works of art.
Very cool! You both (well, what I can see of *you*) look quite the part. I'm sure you had a blast and am eagerly awaiting further reports and photos
ReplyDeleteI absolutely ADORE the picture of you guys looking up from under the tree!!! Iffin' it were ME, I'd blow it up to MURAL size and plaster it on my wall...but you know...that's just me. :) Great photos, and I can't wait to see the rest!
ReplyDeleteI kind of love you. I'm sad that I don't have any sci-fi weaponry. I love my husband dearly...but he would NEVER dress up in steampunk and go to a com-con with me.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are SO adorable! I think this is the first picture I've seen of you, Jen! Mrrrawr!!!
ReplyDeleteYou both look amazing, I can't wait to see your final costume and other pics. And I may have made grabby hands at the screen when I saw that ray gun, it's gorgeous! So jealous!
ReplyDeleteYou guys!!! You look sooooo awesome (and HAWT). :winkguns in direction of John: I can't wait to see more pics!
ReplyDeleteYou both look fantastic and I can't wait to see more pics
ReplyDeleteYou guys look so great! I actually love that top down photo.
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love the ray gun and the costumes are awesome too. Nice job with the lighting and such.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to more!
You and John ROCK! I adore those costume and, OMG, the ray gun is to die for.
ReplyDeleteBoth of you look brilliant! Eager for the next round of photos :D
ReplyDeleteAlso, I know you've mentioned your...stature like a few thousand times, but I still had to have a little giggle about how short you are Jen. I hope you can forgive me...
Ahhhh Morgan beat me to the giant metal chickens reference! *hehe*
ReplyDeleteYou both look amazing and wonderful and I have serious drool over your shiny ray gun!
I love it! You are both so cute! This blog makes me want to get into cosplay so much!
ReplyDeleteJen, you're beautiful! I have no idea why you're so adamant about hiding your face. You both look amazing. Can't wait to see more pictures with costume details!
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE the over-the-head shot of you and John! So cute, you two! Looking forward to seeing the rest of them!
ReplyDeleteOh my gawd you are so AdOrAbLe! I -- I don't have anything else to say right now. Just adorable, Squeee!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! You two are so cute ^_^
ReplyDeleteI love the ray gun!
totally gorgeous duo you to are-o. Your costumes are truly inspiring! Wondering if the ray gun "barrel" is some sort of "genie" lamp or vase?
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see your *con photos.
I agree it is nice to see your face lol. It's beautiful btw. (in a non-creepy sort of way)
You're so PRETTY! Love the costumes. Can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteYou two look awesome! And I can't wait to see the ray gun tutorial.
ReplyDeleteI want to be you when I grow up :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to actually see you! I think you look great. And, John is a cutey!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for Dragon*Con pictures and commentary!!!
ReplyDeleteOh the steampunky goodness! Even though that pose is odd, that is a great picture of the two of you! :) Can't wait for the rest!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! I think the one of you two looking up is neat and out of the ordinary. I can't wait to see the finished product!
ReplyDeleteStephanie, not only would my husband not dress up in steam punk (and have his picture taken), he wouldn't go to the con in the first place--he hates crowds, and only suffers through them for industry stuff (dairy expos and, when it existed, Comdex.) Oh well, maybe someday I'll get to go with my oldest son or my daughter, who are both Firefly fans like me. :-)
I just realized I'd never seen a picture of you (or John) before, and you two are SO CUTE. I LOVE your costumes!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Both of you!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!! I can't wait to see more pics! I'm thinking that I need to do something like this for Halloween... it's just too fun!
ReplyDeleteAwww - sweet! Thanks for sharing the picts! :)
ReplyDeleteyou guys look great!
ReplyDeletecant wait to see the pics from DCon!
"Thirteen years is traditionally sci-fi weaponry, right?"
ReplyDeleteDang it! I wish I had known that 2 years ago. Although I shouldn't complain too much, because hubby took me to Celebration IV for our 11th anniversary, so maybe 11 is sci-fi convo, 13 is sci-fi weaponry, and 17 is . . . sci-fi vehicle? So should I be putting in a request now (that'll give him 2 years)and should I get a Falcon or an AT-AT? Although Falcon would be cooler, the AT-AT probably has more functionality. Hmmmmm. . . . . .
Brilliant. You both look amazing. I must go some year soon.
ReplyDeleteooh! the costumes look great! can't wait to see the rest of the pics. and the ray gun... AWESOME.
ReplyDelete"Thirteen years is traditionally sci-fi weaponry, right?"
ReplyDeleteBWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Glad you had a great time at D*C, AND made it home safely. Didn't sound like a nice drive home.
ReplyDeleteMeeting you, even briefly, was one of the highlights of the con for me. You looked absolutely adorable. Great work on the costume! As a fellow avoid-the-camera-er, you have NOTHING to worry about. You are so damn cute! And I told my hubby that verbatim.
Hope the gathering on Sunday was fun. Sorry I had to shake and run - was triple booked in that time slot.
And I still think you should write a decor/craft How To book!
OMG! You were right next to me a few times! I remember thinking, "aww they're adorable! now I wonder where Jen is..." lol
ReplyDeleteX2 or 3 or 42 or whatever it is about the awesomeness of John, the costumes, the photos and the ray gun.
ReplyDeleteAnd a big about big metal chickens for 15th Anniversaries! Hah!
You are so cute, Jen--don't be self-conscious showing us pics in your costumes! The outfits are great; you are right, John is a Steampunk stud; can't wait to see the rest!
ReplyDeleteDamn, John is hot!
ReplyDeleteAnd you look beautiful of course too, Jen, but really, nice job on the husband!
Hubba hubba!
ReplyDeleteThe ray gun was even awesomer in person. And the Find Jen scavenger hunt was one of the highlights of DragonCon this year! Thanks, guys! :)
ReplyDeleteWow Jen! I didn't realize you and Jon were so good looking? I'm excited to see more of your costume :)
ReplyDeleteYou guys look amazing - can't wait for the rest of the pictures.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Photoshop does have a blur tool that you can use if you really don't want to show your face. If you just barely use it, you can get a degree of anonymity without the creepy faceless person effect being too overwhelming.
I just wanted to say thank you for posting about DragonCon. I went for the first time ever this year because I was so impressed by your blog's coverage of it. I had such a great time, that I'm going to go again next year!
ReplyDeleteDid you all go to the Steam Punk World Record attempt? I almost didn't get allowed in because I barely fell within the Guiness requirements for Steampunk. (You must have a gadget to count.) I'm going to have gadgets galore for next year. ;)
Okay, now you really are teasing! I need details so I can prepare for our own local handcar regatta and expo... http://handcar-regatta.com/
ReplyDeleteYou guys look awesome together, can't wait to see more.
The costumes look amazing and you and John are a gorgeous couple. I CAN'T WAIT for all your pictures from D*Con. I've decided... I'm going next year. I just have to locate your tutorial from last year again to use as a primer before going.
ReplyDeleteDunno why I always pictured you as a redhead. Maybe because my two best friends are both named "Jen" and they're both redheads. Either way, I'm still on the edge of my seat to see D*C pics! I had to work at my RenFaire (and live a few hundred miles away) or else I totally would've been there!
ReplyDeleteOooh, nice work! I'm anxious to see more of your costume, what I can see looks great!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how to say this in a non-creepy way, so I'll just say it: John's costume is teh hawtness. I've got to convince my husband to do that.
You're so cute! I could understand not wanting to post pics if you were a very private person but come on, you tour the country now ;) Nothing to be embarrassed about! Totally cute couple!
ReplyDeleteDo you honestly think this is enough to appease us? Seriously? ahhhh! I feel as if I've been given two potato chips! I'm so sad. On another note...
ReplyDeleteJohn, how u doin' (wagging eyebrows) Looking mighty fine in your digs. You should wear that like all the time. ;)
You two look great! Both photos are unique and fun, but I really like the one of John in the tree. Good tinkering!
ReplyDeleteLove it! John looks so attractive and you are gorgeous! I love SteamPunk and y'all did SUCH a great job capturing the... movment? with your costumes. I especially love the ray gun :)
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of the two of you - it is fantastic x
ReplyDeleteI love that you took "official" photos of your Dragon*Con wear!!! On top of fabulous costumery you guys are so cute together! And yes, a handmade ray gun is totally appropriate anniversary gift and I'm eager to see your tutorial! :) Thought of you this weekend while we were heading home to FL through Atlanta and the scary weather - hope you guys made it home in one piece. We were cursing I-75 repeatedly... I was also cursing missing Dragon*Con again this year.

ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your costume! I recently got into Steampunk and am in the process of making a costume and gun from one of my mom's old glue guns.
ReplyDeleteJohn's costume looks great.
What a great pic of the two of you! You are beautiful Jen!!
ReplyDeleteAWESOME costumes. I've loved following Dragon*Con through blogs this year. Y'all look so great! Like everybody else has said, it's cool to see you have a face. :)
ReplyDeleteJen, you are so pretty. You have been noticeably absent from the photos so I think we were all starting to wonder. I love the outfits and the photos. Can't wait to see more.
ReplyDeleteDon't put a gas mask on, you're so pretty! (Don't keep an air of mystique if that means you can't show us cute couple photos! After a while, readers begin to wonder who's behind the keyboard.) Congrats on 13 years!
ReplyDeleteAww John looks like a stud! And you are just so adorable! I can't wait to see more pictures from the con!
ReplyDeleteTotally Hawt! ;) You two are awesome. Where did you get John's vest? My sweetie wants to start wearing a shirt/vest combo to teach high school science...
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great work!
WOW! Great pictures and props to the props!
ReplyDeleteI was at Dragon*Con and told my friends I had to find the "CakeWrecks lady" but it was hard since I didn't have a clear picture of what you looked like. LOL
I figured if anywhere, I'd find you in the steampunk exhibition, but no dice (as far as I know, at least). :)
Maybe next year...
I tried so hard to find you at Dragon Con :( lol almost did it at the Will Wheaton panel on Monday but people kept looking at me weird when I went up and down the lines looking for red converse and a black hat.
ReplyDeleteWhy not post more pictures of yourself in costumes? You're adorable! And your hubs is a cutie, too! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat costumes and photos. I love the hat!
ReplyDelete"Thirteen years is traditionally sci-fi weaponry." Hallmark needs to update their list. Your list is so much better.:-)
Jen, you're so pretty! Why don't you post more pictures of yourself?
ReplyDeleteLove, love, LOVE the costumes! And I love the pic of you and John in costume; you both look fabulous. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the ray gun too!
I thought 13 was big metal chicken?
ReplyDeleteNo, no, that's 15, Emily. ;)
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of Dragoncon posts up, too and included a link to my flickr set, if you want to see some of my pictures.
ReplyDeletehttp://southerncomfortga.blogspot.com/2011/09/dragoncon-2011-friday-and-saturday.html
squee! yall are so cute!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome costumes!! Did you get to the record-breaking steampunk photo shoot?
ReplyDeleteYall are just too stinkin CUTE!
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of the two of you!!! Because you can't see the rest of John's costume, he looks a lot like Han Solo, except scruffy looking. :) Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh, and my girl crush now gets out of hand ;) Never knew you were such a hottie!
ReplyDeleteCan I tell you that I've always thought your husband was sexy, even though this is the first time I've actually seen a picture of him? It's his manliness, I think. Power tools, carpentry, Mr. Fix-it, and the like. Sessy!
ReplyDeleteOMGosh. You are an adorable geek girl. You make me all types of jealous. I want to be an adorable little geek girl with a ray gun. Instead, I'm just a geek girl with a foam sword.
ReplyDeleteOK, I couldn't see much of the shoes from that angle, but I stumbled across these and immediately though of you:
ReplyDeletehttp://cgi.ebay.com/_W0QQitemZ250887072295QQcmdZViewItem
Brown (or black) "suede" and leather boots with brass gear buttons running up the side.
Of course, I know that you will now go "ooh!", find a less expensive pair of boots and figure out how to attach steampunk-y buttons to them. Good enough.
Oh! I finally got to see the face of one of my favorite Geek Girls! You and John are adorable and I have no idea why you don't like having your picture taken?!!
ReplyDeleteLove the costumes, too! -Ruth
Great pictures! I have to admit, this is the first time I've seen Jen in a picture... is that weird?! I've followed CW almost since the beginning, and EPBOT definitely since the beginning, and for some crazy reason, I had it in my head that you were blond... uh... no. Why did I think that?! Well, you're both super cute and cute together, no matter the hair color. :p Great costumes too!!
