Well, it turns out, she also had one of the most nerdtastic weddings I've ever seen. For their one year anniversary last week, Amorae made a video showcasing the ceremony and all the fun geeky touches, like concocting a love potion at the alter, video game and LEGO decorations, and vows that include references to zombies and dementors. So. FUN.
Check it out:
{sigh} Don't you just love watching geeks marry?
Congrats on your anniversary, Amorae and Jonny, and here's to many, many more.
And thanks to Sadie for the link!
PS: Also, check out these photos of Harry Potter themed weddings! So much pretty!
that is awesome. nerd love in full bloom. IF i ever do it again, i hope it can be a "day of awesome" too.
ReplyDeleteNow this makes me believe in love. Truly nerdtastic, and I love the colors.
ReplyDeleteI love how her dress is pretty traditional, then she has that gorgeous petticoat underneath. And those shoes!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love it, especially the way they combine their last names.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, AWESOMENESS!
ReplyDeleteWeddings that are out of the box are the best. <3 it!
I saw this earlier, it was awesome. I've never seen you reference nerdfighteria before Jen, am I blind and you're actually a nerdfighter, or was this a one off thing?
ReplyDeleteSo unbelievably adorable, and awesome! Makes me ponder about my own upcoming wedding...
ReplyDelete@ May - A one-off thing, I'm afraid. I used the title from the wedding video, not realizing there is a whole realm of nerdfightery out there. Then I just hoped it wasn't some weird fetish thing. ;) (From what I can tell it seems safely awesome, though. Phew!)
ReplyDeleteWe did Chuck Taylors for our wedding, too, six long years agao. :) There's just something wonderful about seeing everyone walk down the aisle in a pair of Chucks (even our parents did it!).
ReplyDeleteTeal and purple peacocks standing out from the herd of white sheep. Love it! The photogs must not have had any problem from differentiating that wedding album from the masses.
ReplyDeleteNerdfighters are made of AWESOME!Jen,you should check out the vlogbrothers Hank and John Green! They do awesome stuff while beeing awesome!Literally!
ReplyDeleteAwesome. I want that. I might have cried just a bit at the end.
ReplyDeleteI love these unique touches for weddings :-) Have you seen this blockbuster epic movie trailer style wedding invite? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTqLyCTESjg
ReplyDeleteThe bride sounds like Felicia Day in the video which I think just adds to the geekiness.
ReplyDeleteI'm planning on a Harry Potter themed wedding. My boyfriend is regretting the day he said "whatever you want." Any fun ideas?
ReplyDeleteSee? SEE?? Texas isn't all bad! Can't wait to come meet you when you're IN MY BACK YARD in Fairview this November!!
ReplyDeleteI am wearing teal to my upcoming godmothers wedding in October and now I am so tempted to ditch my heels for some converse! Also very tempted to add some lego to my fascinator haha.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet. I love it. I would LOVE to attend a wedding like this.
ReplyDeletei just saw these last night and thought of you, jen! http://mlkshk.com/p/69H1
ReplyDeleteThat was the most awesome wedding I've ever seen! I can't wait to show my husband this video so we can BOTH be jealous that we didn't come up with that idea.
ReplyDeleteI can't quite top that, but at my wedding two months ago...
ReplyDelete1. My ring was designed by Architect Frank Gehry.
2. His ring was a white-gold replica of The One Ring.
3. We wore 'e' and 'Ï€' shirts and held copies of "The Silmarillion" and "The Hitchhiker's Guide" in our engagement photos, which we put on our invitations.
4. The wedding party walked down the aisle to "Hedwig's Theme."
5. Our cake was based off an xkdc comic ("My Usual Approach.")
6. Our cake toppers were clothespin versions of us dressed in the team uniforms we wore to compete in engineering competitions together in high school (which was a LONG time ago, it's been an interesting journey.)
7. We took the bulk of our wedding portraits in front of the Computer Engineering building at UF, where we took most of his classes. (I was EE at a different university.)
We're already researching the Think Geek kid's section for our upcoming baby. Poor kid. :-)
Super cool...
ReplyDeletebut an fyi, for me at least...the BlogHer banner on the right hand side of the blog cut off some of your text in the blog post. :( I guessed at the words...lol
NERDFIGHTER LOVE FOR THE WIN!!!
ReplyDeleteYou should totally check out OffBeat Bride for all kinds of wedding awesomeness! :)
ReplyDeleteI wish these people were my besties. How awesome!!
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic! I love all the little nerd touches. when K and I renew, we are so doing things with a geek flair!
ReplyDeleteAaaaaand here I sit at work, choking back the tears.
ReplyDeleteTears of JOY of course, but I still hating crying at work.
What a beautiful gift.
It gives me hope that love really does exist in all forms.
<3
OMG I absolutely adored their wedding photos when you posted and now the video? Not gonna lie, it made me cry. I don't even know these two and I love them. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteTotally getting misty at work! Must remember to watch nerdy wedding videos while at home. Happiness to the happy couple!
ReplyDeleteI don't know them, but I LOVE them!!!!
ReplyDeleteThey took each other's names... that's AWESOME!!!
oh good heavens, now I am addicted to themarysue.com
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to add one more voice to the support for checking out the vlog brothers youtube channel and nerdfighteria in general.
ReplyDeleteIf you were to join Nerdfighteria to the Wreckorators you could take over the internet! And as always DFTBA.
KUDOS to them for doing something so personal!!!
ReplyDeleteBest line: "By the power granted to me by the internet, I now declare you husband and wife. You may make out."
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing that video!!! love love love the bouquets and colors!
ReplyDeleteAwwwwwww!!! I love it!
ReplyDeleteWe also got married in a movie theatre, and it was a blast. We were shocked when our theatre told us no one had ever done that there before!
http://rainydaychocolate.blogspot.com/2010/09/5-years.html
Thanks so much for the well wishes, Jen. You are very sweet :D
ReplyDeleteSo awesome! I remember the photos from when you posted them... It was so neat to see the wedding, too! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAnd as far as nerdy weddings go: I read my vows in a language that I created--completely constructed grammar and all. (English didn't quite say what I wanted to convey--I did read a translation for the benefit of the onlookers, though.) Does that count? :)
I couldn't stop grinning the whole time I was watching that. I love when people buck tradition and decide to make their wedding truly their own. Hopefully a wedding will be in my not-too-distant future and I can't wait to make it my own--my goal is to make it fun and relaxed for *everyone* involved. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome!! My hubby and I had Final Fantasy music in our selection, and my very prim and proper grandmother actually complimented the beautiful piano piece that she didn't know.
ReplyDeleteIf it wouldn't seem so stalkerish, I'd totally look them up, being part of a fellow Dallas nerd couple. That wedding was definitely full of awesome!
ReplyDeleteSo in love with that dress. SOOOOOOOOOOOO in love.
ReplyDeleteI think she needs to go into the "Geek Wedding Planning" business! That was wonderful, and I want to look at all the pictures/video they have to absorb the awesome!
ReplyDeleteTruly a testament to geek love.
ok, so there is an awesome video on youtube, a spin off of harry potter and "firework".
ReplyDeletehttp://youtu.be/ySN8Q4U6wys
That was...well, awesome. :-) I kept pausing and rewinding the video to soak up as much detail as possible. I echo Bryna (and Up's Dug)--I don't know them but I love them! I also agree with Kati M about the best line of the entire video.
ReplyDeleteThe link that Fernanda posted to the YouTube "blockbuster wedding invitation" was great, too. Now *I* want a nerd wedding.
Totally awesome!
ReplyDeleteJen! You are already a Nerdfighter at heart. They love a lot of the stuff that you do (books, humor, everything!). Remember Ransom Riggs, the author who wrote Miss Peregrines's Home for Peculiar Children (loved your review-btw)? Ransom is a very good friend of John Green(another fabulous Y/A Fiction author). John Green, and his equally nerdy brother Hank, are responsible for creating a wonderful forum for people who call themselves Nerdfighters. Nerdfighters ARE nerds--NOT people who fight nerds--who fight to decrease 'world suck' and they are made entirely of awesome. Examples: Nerdfighters participate in this thing called the Project for Awesome each year. It's all about charity and community. You know the Cake wrecks well in Mai Minshik? That well has a lot of Nerdfighter cousins in similar places where clean water is a precious commodity. After the earthquake in Haiti, Nerdfighteria teamed with the Harry Potter Alliance to raise money to charter five planes to Haiti full of medical supplies. That's just the tip of the iceburg. These are GOOD people--have no fear of fetishy stuff. Check them out--I promise you'll be pleased and will wonder why you did not know about them before. http://www.youtube.com/user/vlogbrothers#p/u/0/FyQi79aYfxU
ReplyDeleteDFTBA! (Nerdfighter creed--Don't Forget To Be Awesome)
I totally put the link to this post on my Tumblr so others can find it. Awesome! Thanks for sharing it with us, so I could share it with others! :)
ReplyDeleteMy son watched the video over my shoulder then announced that he wants to have a wedding like that someday (he's 14 so hopefully someday won't be for at least another decade LOL).
ReplyDeleteVery sweet wedding!
I LOVE this wedding!
ReplyDeletethis is SO awesome!
ReplyDeleteI am a 'card carrying' Nerdfighter.
DFTBA!
THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (as you can tell by the multitude of exclamation points)
ReplyDeleteKat
