After ending a long weekend, who couldn't use a few pick-me-ups?
My first smile came in the mail today:
My first smile came in the mail today:
Yay, ebay! I scored all these guys, plus an extra Gonzo, for about $6. Now I just need Animal in his red wagon to complete the set. (Because, really, I need more toys on my desk.)
From the always-amazing SuperPunch, a pic that made me squeal and gasp at the same time (squasp?):
That's it, I want to play Atlas. (The short 'bot.) Now I just need to learn how to mold plastics and wire electronic eyes and stuff.
And finally, something I shared on FB last night from LeVar Burton's Twitter feed:
Considering that John and I spent last night watching old Star Trek episodes on Netflix (did you hear? Both original AND TNG are now available for online viewing!), I found this especially apropos. And you've gotta love Brent's expression.
So, how was your weekend, guys? John and I worked, per usual. (The downside of working both at home and for yourself: you have to try reeeally hard to take a day off.) Not that I'm complaining; I love my job. Most of the time. ;)
Oh YAY!! I'm introducing the boys to Star Trek this summer, and Disc 1 of the Original Series is arriving today. So glad I can clear the queue out and stream it instead. (It wasn't streaming last time I checked.) Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteThanks you so much for pointing out that TNG is now on watch it now!!!! I was just about to get season two sent to me and now I don't have to wait!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! My brother and I had the Kermit and the Gonzo of that set. I remember them well!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the picture of TNG guys! My husband and I are working our way through all 7 seasons (bought the complete set as a family Christmas present), so it's funny to see them as they are now. :) I hate to admit that I wouldn't have figured out who Brent was without your giving his name.
ReplyDeleteI totally had all of those Muppet toys! That makes me want to go my parents' right now and see if Mom has them packed up somewhere!
ReplyDeletePretty sure I have Gonzo, but I'm not sure I ever had the others. I'll have to dig my old Happy Meal toybox out at my parents'.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, my Netflix jealousy continues. Have they or are they adding DS9 and Voyager?
I love your idea of an 'And now, for something completely different...'
ReplyDeleteThank you! That photo is so freakin' awesome! Is it sad that I have a huge crush on Brent Spiner? I wasn't even alive for the early years of TNG.
We DID notice that! I'm not a trekkie, but hubbie's tossed me in the pool to sink or swim since he saw they were available on Netflix. I don't know how I'm going to finish Stargate or Babylon 5, if he keeps finding geeky things for our queue...
ReplyDeleteI spent the weekend at my friends' wedding and your Muppet babies have just reminded me of their awesome cake! :)
ReplyDeleteIt was made by a friend of the couple who makes cakes as a hobby!
I had those toys! I STILL have Scrooge McDuck in his red car.
ReplyDeleteThe Star Trek convention is coming through Nashville this month. How appropriate that it is on my birthday weekend. I wonder if I can drag my kicking, screaming husband to it? :)
ReplyDeleteoh man! I am SO happy to hear about streaming Star Trek. I just noticed the other day that all of the Power Rangers series was instant stream, and I about died when my fiance's roommate said he had never seen an episode.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, LOVE the Portal 2 cosplay! So amazing! I want!
squeeee!!! Chell even has a potato!
ReplyDelete(if you haven't player the single player you have no idea what that means )
saw the TNG photo on facebook and totally said "Geordi, Data and Riker!" and squeed.
ReplyDelete@HeatherLeah wait... the convention is coming to Nashville this month?! Boy, I wish I had known that sooner. So little time to prepare!
ReplyDeleteWait a minute, stop the truck: there's an Animal to that set? Because I do not have Animal! This must be rectified immediately--what search terms do I use on Ebay to find him.
ReplyDeleteNetflix Canada just sucks sometimes - they've still got major licensing issues so we don't get a lot of the new releases or cool shows.... no Star Trek (of any kind) for us! Boo!
ReplyDeleteThank for posting that pic of the boys though - always love seeing Brent, he's such a cutie!
I just think of all the toys my mom had from McDonalds and the like that are now somewhere long forgotten. She had a big box full of them for a long time for kids to come over to play.
ReplyDelete~Rene
I had that Fozzie toy when I was a kid, NOSTALGIA BOMB
ReplyDeleteAnimal was apparently Canadian. I never had that one.
ReplyDeleteI love that cake, Carrie! The worst thing about it, other than having to cut into it and spoiling the cuteness, would be deciding who got to be Bunsen and who got to be Beaker. :-)
ReplyDeleteI spent my weekend at CONvergence, which is the big sci-fi convention in Minneapolis, MN.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has been watching bits of Star Wars since she was 3, and since my husband and I have recently gotten into Dr. Who she has been exposed to A bit of that as well. I was just saying the other day that to make Papa (my dad) happy, we need to start her on Trek soon. I have a few fond memories of watching TNG with my dad and sister when I was a kid and I think he'd get a kick out of seeing her recognize the show and characters. Thanks for he heads up for Netflix! I commented on FB this morning, but again, I love that picture! LaVar Burton was another staple of my childhood from Reading Rainbow. Squee!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby & I were looking for something new & geeky to watch, and noticed Star Trek was now in instant! SUPER excited, we are actually watching this at the moment. :-D
ReplyDeleteWe had a good 4th. We went to a small water park and later came home and grilled up a yummy dinner. We may or may not have lit up illegal fireworks in front of our house....(shifty eyes)
ReplyDelete@Melinda - the bride was Beaker, the groom Bunsen (it's a sort of in-joke they had!)
ReplyDeleteI think my sister just got rid of those Muppet Babies a few years ago! I still have my cars tucked away from the Animaniacs and Tiny Toons Happy Meals though! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's cool about Star Trek on Netflix! I'd love to see them in order. Of course, first I have to finish my BSG marathon! I heart Netflix!
Oh, those toys reminded me of my Uncle. :) We have an extremely large family (over 100 1st/2nd cousins!!) and for every child born into the family, he gets a McDonald's toy from that year. I have one unopened from 1989. :) It's so much fun having all of those old toys!
ReplyDeleteTNG is one of my favorite things my husband introduced me to. I was so excited to see TNG, Voyager, and the original series streaming on Netflix! I spent the fourth watching Star Trek Voyager while wearing my World of Warcraft Tshirt as I ate pizza. Living stereotype! :)
ReplyDeleteMy reactions:
ReplyDelete1st pic: smile
2nd pic: mouth open
3rd pic: jaw is now on the floor
YAAAAAAAAAYYYY!!!! :D
You just made my day!
Happy Meal toys!!!
ReplyDeleteMy mother make a point to complete the collections when we were little. At the end, she will buy a collection for each one of us (we are 3 sisters). Many of toys are still in the house...in a BIG box in the closet. As soon as I have an office many of them will come out.
Animal? WHAT? There was no animal in that set, is he from a different release? I can't find him anywhere on the internet.
ReplyDeleteHere in Red Deer, Canada we sang all our favourite funny Canadian songs (eg The Logdrivers' Waltz), watched the Royal Tour, and had cake.
ReplyDeleteTo see pictures of Baby Animal with his wagon go here. They also have pictures of the under three happy meal toys.
Also Voyager and Enterprise are on streaming. Although for some reason I can't understand DS9 isn't.
ReplyDeleteOMG i used to have those muppet toys as a kid!!
ReplyDeleteAWE @ levar burtons twitter pic - WIN!
I am so excited to stream all that ST:TNG from netflix!
Discovered ST about 4 years ago. can't believe i didn't watch this growing up!!!
ReplyDeleteOmigosh! I distinctly remember that Miss Piggy in the Pink Car figurine! I begged my mom to get me Happy Meals until she was mine, all mine. This post put a grin on my face.
ReplyDeleteI have the same red robot guy that you have in your first pic. He was a gift from a friend and seeing it behind your toys just made it even better!
ReplyDeleteI have to say I've been diligently trying to watch Battlestar Gallactica on Netflix for a while now and am finding it rather tedious. I may have to give my geek/nerd card back.
THANK YOU!!! I had not realized that TOS was streaming again!!! I didn't have Netflix the last time it was streaming and I haven't seen every episode yet (my dad had bought a bunch of the VHS tapes back in the day, but not all)....and my friend has only seen half of the first season. I can't wait to show her A Piece of the Action, among others!
ReplyDeleteAnd our weekend was great...my oldest turned 12 on the 4th. Scary to almost have a teenager in the house!
Oh man, the crush I had on Brent when I was in high school (admittedly still do) and what I did at a convention to win the main prize....
ReplyDeletethat's a great pic.
at least when you work for yourself you can usually stick the weekend where ever you like ;)
GEEK T-Shirt Alert: http://www.headlineshirts.net/stay-puft-radar-t-shirt-1.html
ReplyDeleteJen, I saw this & thought of you ;-)
If you haven't seen it yet, check out the tv show Hollywood Treasure on SyFy, which follows a California-based appraiser and his team "as they track down, appraise and help auction off valuable film, television and pop culture memorabilia." They had an original Gozer's costume from Ghostbusters in one episode and lots of other geeky goodness!
ReplyDeleteappropriately enough, my boyfriend's been slogging his way through TNG this very week on netflix (after a month or two of watching all of stargate. all of them) i've been offering a lot of snarky commentary, but i can't complain too much because picard is the man.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid I had all of the Muppet toys including animal! Just had to say that and I just found your blog and I love it! I'm a Geek but only realized that recently. I used to watch The Princess Bride or The Labyrinth, when I was sick at home from school. I love Dr Who, (mainly David as the Dr!), Star Wars, Monty Python, just to name a few things in common.
ReplyDeleteI never will forget while I was having a quick bite to eat while I was waiting on a friend of mine (Don Marshall of STAR TREK TOS,and LAND OF THE GIANTS) to join me at the Star Trek convention at the San Diego Convention Center ,(I don't remember which year) I had a little chat with Cmdr.Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and I asked him why he never made it to Captain except for that one episode, and he looked me in the eye and said BAD WRITING!! NUFF SAID!!
