Haunted Mansion Stretching Portraits Bookmark

I'm currently mired in so many long-term projects that I went looking for an instant-gratification craft fix the other night. So, in about twenty minutes, I had this:

Pretty cool, right? Ah, but here's where the "magic" happens:

Is this bookmark actually stretching? Or is it your imagination?

I've had this papercraft bookmark in my "to-do" folder for ages, and it's definitely the easiest papercraft project I've ever done. Just print, cut, a few folds, a little glue, and voilá! I even had the tassel left over from who-knows-what, which really adds that perfect finishing touch.

Plus, if batty ballerina isn't your style, you can simply flip the inner card over for this dynamite option:

And here he is in his corruptible, mortal state:

The front reads, "I'm dying to finish this book," by the way. (Sorry it's not very clear.)

These would be fun to make with your little geeklings, or be the perfect quick-and-easy gift to tuck in with a birthday card. Just be sure to use heavy card stock, and set your printer for high-quality. (And if you really wanted to go all out, you could use packing tape or clear laminate to make it more durable.)

Now, what are you waiting for? Go download the template! (It's free from Disney's website.) And if you know of any other great bookmark templates or projects, please share 'em in the comments!

UPDATE 9/21: That Disney template link is long gone, but lucky for us I never clear out my file folders! So here's the image file, simply click to embiggen, then right-click and save to your desktop:

And because I'm feeling extra, here's a second version where I replaced the stretching wallpaper print with something more accurate, and also made the wording more legible:

 Happy paper-crafting!

  3. I'm still up!

Very cool, I will have to make some for birthday gifts. And one for myself of course. My daughter is always stealing my bookmarks - while they are saving my page of course :(

  11. AACK! I'm in love with it and know exactly who to give one to, but I can't get the template to stay on screen for more than a second. Then white screen. I would love to do this though if I can figure out how to fix that little glitch. :(

  12. http://howaboutorange.blogspot.com/2009/02/origami-heart-bookmarks.html

How About Orange has a bunch of bookmark printables and instructions. Here's one for an origami heart bookmark. If you search for bookmark, you get printable foxes, flowers and birds, plus another origami corner-marker, and a bunch of ideas using fabric.

  16. Before I clicked to zoom in on the pic, I would've sworn that the caption on the bookmark said, "I'm dying in Boston this week." And I thought, "That doesn't make sense!" So I clicked it, and now it makes sense. Cool bookmarks!

  18. I love the Haunted Mansion and, of course, the Stretching Room. :) I'll have to make a few of these. I didn't know that Disney had crafts like that...I found one of the Hitchhiking Ghosts. Woo!

  20. An original painting of the woman with the alligator from the first go around of the Haunted Mansion was sold at Hollywood Treasures on SciFi. If you don't want that show already, DO IT. It's on Wed nights after Ghost Hunters and Haunted Collector. The stuff on there is AMAZING!

  21. Love it! My first thought was Haunted Mansion and then I saw where you got the template. I will definitely have to try this!:-)

  22. I made one! I wish it was a little bit bigger though, as some of the little folds were a bit tricky. And I may or may not have made a huge mess with a bottle of glue...perhaps I should stick to glue sticks. :D

  23. Disney has some of the BEST free crafts! I have this one "saved" for later. I'm currently making the paper lanterns from Tangled! >_<
Hopefully I'll have my own tutorial for it up on my blog soon.
Also attempting a Tangled themed cake.

  25. I don't know if you ever feature non 'creative' websites. However, I would like to tell you of Celia Betz.

Beautiful Celia has Batten disease. Batten is an extremely rare disease that takes the sight, movement and mind of a child. It is also fatal.

Celia's family is trying to raise awareness of this disease.

You can read about them at http://www.betzfamilycolumbus.blogspot.com/

  27. Disney has changed their page. Print option now prints the webpage, not the bookmark.

  28. This is such a cute project! And I always love a penny tabletop. My grandparents had a penny top bar in their basement (they entertained a lot). This is how I know I come by my fussiness/OCD/perfectionism honestly: all the pennies were not only face-up, they were all in the same direction. So proud. 😊
