Ooooh, I'm feeling pretty good about the future of girl geekdom today, guys! Check it out:
via
This Batgirl could kick your butt and look fabulous doing it.
Then reader Kirsten M. sent in this pic of her daughter as Doctor Horrible:
Kirsten even made the coat herself! Now that's raising your geek girl right. Kudos, Kirsten!
One more shot of gratuitous adorableness:
"The world is a mess, and I just need to RULE it."
Speaking of adorable evil, have you seen the Vader princesses?
Love. It.
And one more, hangin' with her papa:
via The Force is Strong
Soooo cute.

That pattern is too perfect! I love it!
ReplyDeleteOoo! That'd be a fabulous project to knit for my baby girl! Not to mention she loves capes. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern! My mom does baby photography and it would be a great prop to make her :D
ReplyDeleteAlso, bonus points because I'm posting this from my Physics course ;)
Ooo! That would be a great next knitting project for my baby girl!
ReplyDeleteOkay, was looking at the superhero wedding capes you posted, and did you check out the link to the ultimate Star Wars wedding? JABBA CAKE ALERT FOR YOUR SUNDAY SWEETS! And check out the Alderaan centerpiece...or not!
ReplyDeleteUltimate Star Wars Wedding Complete with Jabba Cake and Alderaan Centerpiece
Mwah-hahahahaha... I've been working on the laugh; it's about standards! Last year was a PvZ Halloween, and I'm thinkin' this year needs to be Dr H. Oh, yeeeeeeah.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how to knit, but my mom does.
I don't have any kids of my own, but my 5 year old niece would look adorable in any of these SQEEEEE!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally want that pattern. I don't knit, but I know someone who does and would get a kick out of it! :)
ReplyDeletehehe I know what I'm getting my mum to knit for my baby (when he/she comes) no booties for us.
ReplyDeleteMy little girl would look adorable in that costume. Sign me up!
ReplyDeleteWANT! I just started taking up knitting and this would be a fun project! :D
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, please!! And those are awesome pictures! I have much faith in the younger generation.
ReplyDeleteLove the Vader Princesses! And that SuperBaby is adorable!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh that's so stinking cute! I would dig out my incrdilby rusty knitting skills for this!
ReplyDeleteTotally awesome. I wish I were as cool a geek as these geeky parents.
ReplyDeleteMy day is made with my blog and Darth Fairy making it on Epbot! And I'm overdosing on all the geek girlie goodness. Pink Batgirl rocks.
ReplyDeleteAaah! Superbaby! (I'm growing one of those right now.)
ReplyDeleteThat's so cute! I'd love to win that! :D I love this blog, and all the geeky cuteness it brings into my day!
ReplyDeleteWOW double geekdom today with CakeWrecks, too! We are not worthy!!! Would love to have a superbaby pattern - how cool would that be!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteTracyO
So cute! Somewhere I have a picture of me dressed as Rainbow Brite when I was 4. I use that picture as proof my mom loves me. The whole costume was stuffed to give it the proper shape, AND she made me an orange/yellow yarn wig to wear with it.
ReplyDeleteCute geekery as always.
ReplyDeleteIf I win, this pattern is going straight to my wife, who loves to knit and crochet things for others. :)
I've been getting worried. My middle school daughter went to school dressed as Lois Lane for Halloween (name tag and all), and only the teachers knew who Lois Lane was. She was also the only one celebrating Towel Day today, but that wasn't as surprising. It is good to know there are other geek moms out there working to raise our girls right :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh!!! I need this knitting pattern for my boys! Do I sense homemade Halloween costumes on the horizons? Too. Stinking. Cute.
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing the Lady Vader costumes, I have yet another item to add to the list of reasons we need to add a girl child to our geek herd. :)
Oh how I wish I could go back and do my childhood like that!! ah well I swear on all that is geeky that if I should ever raise children they will be dressed right! (...And have a life size model of the tardis to play in:) - Kat
ReplyDeleteSuper cute!!!Want!!!
ReplyDeleteNo capes!
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I had a girl. Sigh, Would still love to win the knit pattern I know some baby/toddler girl geeks that need some help.
ReplyDeleteI love your site, I check it all the time, waiting with baited breath. I would love to have a copy of the pattern so my new goddaughter can help lead the next generation of geekgirls!!!! PS I always wanted to be Vader. Not really a Leia kind of girl.
ReplyDeletewhy were my parents not awesomely geeky when I was little? I had to raise myself to be a geek on my own!!
ReplyDeletethe worst saddest part of this are
a) I have no geeky baby pictures
b) I cant buy my parents all the awesome geek parent stuff from thinkgeek
So adorable! And perfect for getting me in the mood for con this weekend! Thanks for the post and a chance to win an awesome pattern!
ReplyDeleteoh! I love it! I can just see my oldest niece doing the Vader Princess thing. And she starts planning her next Halloween costume on Nov. 1.
ReplyDeleteYes please!
ReplyDeleteI'm 8 months pregnant with my first Super Baby!! :D
wv amminti: As in "I amminti"
OMG, THOSE ARE SO CUTE!!! If I ever have kids, I will DEFINETELY do some geeky costumes for them, especially the Doctor Horrible cape. That is too AWE- wait for it-SOME!!!
ReplyDeleteI am in LOVE! We have been posting geeky vids of our 6-month old (in costume and set to soundtracks), but these are making me think we need to step it up a notch...
ReplyDeleteMewants. Meknits alot. Meloves babies.
ReplyDeleteI have got to try win this pattern, I can already imagine me knitting it.. too cute for words!
ReplyDeleteThe pattern is amazing! I wants it!
ReplyDelete*grabby hands*
oh.my.god. My sister is pregnant, and, boy or girl, this would make an absolutely perfect present!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have that pattern!! Why can't there be more of these around?? good patterns are hard to find!
ReplyDeleteHoly cuteness, Batgirl! My girls are lost to the world of cosplay, but I bet my new niece, not yet a month old, could be forced into the costume. I promise to send a picture of her in it if I win the pattern.
ReplyDeleteMy little girl is due in Sept so this would be great for first Halloween/bedtime
ReplyDeleteI just learned to knit, my first project was a doctor who scarf. My cousin's baby so needs this.
ReplyDeleteSuch adorable little girls. Here's my teenage geek girl in her Tardis costume from Halloween. It is even bigger on the inside.
ReplyDeleteThe little sister would love to be a superhero.
So completely adorable! Would love to add this pattern to my collection. :D

When my daughter was 2, I was watching the Enterprise series to catch up to where my husband was in the season and got my daughter hooked on Star Trek and spaceships. She wants to fly a space ship when she's all grown up. I've already got my young son hooked on ST as well, hehe
ReplyDeleteI'm always knitting baby things for baby showers and such (frankly, I just like the quick turnaround compared to knitting for adults) so I'm sure I could find somebody to make this for!
ReplyDeleteI am gonna be an aunt real soon, and I aim to be the coolest, geekiest aunt ever. Watch out, little one!
ReplyDeleteMan... This is INCREDIBLE. Even if I don't win, I suspect I will be purchasing this wonderfulness.
ReplyDeletedon't even have a child, but..... comment.
ReplyDeleteLove the pattern! That would be perfect for my son's next Halloween!
ReplyDeleteoh my...that's the cutest super hero outfit! Audrey, my 18 month old niece would suit the suit perfectly! i love the geek girls you find :)
ReplyDeleteMy two little girls would love those costumes, if only they came in adult sizes....
ReplyDeleteI love girl geekiness...it is so cool.
ReplyDeleteI would absolutely LOVE to win this! Ok, so our little super girl isn't even due until July, but that means I would have no excuse *not* to finish this before she can walk!
ReplyDeleteeven more reasons to pick up knitting...
ReplyDeleteoops i left the comment about my neice Audry and forgot to leave my name...i always seem to find a link on your site that keeps me busy for a while :) thankyou for helping me thru some slow work days!
ReplyDeleteI want the pattern for my friend Dawn who knits and has a 2 year old boy who is PERFECT for that costume.
ReplyDeleteShe is also a fabulously funny blogger.

Those Darth Vader princesses remind me of my 4 year old who yesterday dressed herself as a princess-fairy-jedi-ninja. She had a wand AND a light saber in addition to the tiara and wings.
Ooooh -- I know a lot of little ones that I MUST knit this for!
ReplyDeleteOh I adore this! So many babies to do this for!
ReplyDeleteIf my mom would have ever thought to pinkify Darth Vader like that, I would probably be a bigger Star Wars fan today.
ReplyDeleteMy niece Olive is going to love her geektastic Auntie M! :D
ReplyDeleteAnd I want this!
Death Star Cookie Jar
I just fell in love a ton with all of those costumes. If I ever get a girl we will be teaching her the way of the geek.
ReplyDeleteIf my mom had ever thought to pinkify Darth Vader like that, I would probably be a bigger Star Wars fan today. Not that I didn't find my own brand of geek on my own, but sometimes I wish I liked something as popular as that.
ReplyDeleteGlorious! I love being the geeky auntie with all the geeky goodies! I also love including my niece in the showers of gifts. The fact that my 1 1/5-year-old niece is now running around humming the Imperial March only adds to my suspicion that her parents are raising her right.
ReplyDeleteI would love to knit a cape!!
ReplyDeleteOMG WANTWANTWANT! My little girl is 6 now, perhaps too big for the pattern, but I do knit and I have nerdy friends who have yet to procreate, so it may still come in handy!
ReplyDeleteI would love to knit that for my friend's daughter.
ReplyDeleteoh I LOVE that. No babies yet, but he/she is doomed to be a geek baby, so he/she needs to look the part.
ReplyDeleteOh me!!
ReplyDeleteooh!! Too cute!!!
ReplyDeleteI just love this post so much! I'm going to have to make some of this for my niece. TOO CUTE!
ReplyDeleteI must get this!!!!
ReplyDeleteCrafting + nerd things = epic
That is awesome!!! I love to knit, and the costume is ADORABLE! Ooooh, I hope I win I hope I win I hope I win...
ReplyDeleteOf course, I don't have any kids, but that is a minor detail.
That's all awesome, but the Death Star wand totally wins! :)
ReplyDeleteI really Like the Pink Princess with her daddy soo cute:)
ReplyDeleteLove the pink batgirl and the darth faries! how awesome! I don't knit so pick a different comment if this one happens to be chosen (What am I saying I never win anything anyway)I just couldn't not commenet. Geek on, my friend, Geek on!
ReplyDeleteOooh... I can think of a few cool kids who could fill out that superhero suit pretty well.... :)
ReplyDeleteI know just the baby I would make this for! (And then I'd hang on to it for when I have kids cuz you know I'm going to deck them out in all sorts of geeky things.)
ReplyDeleteI have 2 friends expecting girls in the next year, I'd LOVE to make that for them! (And if I don't win, I'm just going to have to make my *own* pattern!)
ReplyDeleteOh! And, wv~ kingsh; why does my husband still think he's kingsh(tuff)?
Awww, I know two super cute super babies!! My sister just learned to knit, AND she's a huge comic book geek! My nieces would look super DUPER adorbz in something like this!
ReplyDeleteDeath Star wand! I want! No, I need! My brother needs to have kids so I can be the awesome geeky aunt!
ReplyDeleteSO CUTE!!!
ReplyDeleteI can haz pattern pleaz?
ReplyDeleteEnough lolspeak now, but I'd still like the superbaby pattern :-)
Sarah/scienceprincess
I don't know if I could knit that, but I gotta try for the pattern. It's a Knitter Law.
ReplyDeleteHarper needs a super baby cape! She would be adorns and geeky in one awesome package!
ReplyDeleteimpressive color work, though with a baby, I can't even imagine how long that took to make. Lots of geeky love went into that for sure!
ReplyDeleteLove the princess Vadars! I crochet but in a few weeks I'm hoping to learn to knit (group of ladies at church are doing a craft night in June-bring what you do, learn something new). I would love to make a Superbaby costume for a friend's baby girl.
ReplyDeleteI can haz pattern?
ReplyDeleteI'm not interested in the prize (ty though!) but had to on comment how freaking adorable those girls are! Jeez, my uterus already weeps when I pass the baby dept in Target. This just doubly makes me want a girl.
ReplyDeleteThat's fantastic! Saw a little girl at work today with a supergirl cape!
ReplyDeleteOh, goodness, the Super Baby pattern is adorable!!! I might even go over to the dark side (knitting--I'm a crocheter) to make it. And it need not be for a girl... My little geekling boy would look darling in it... In the right colors. ;)
ReplyDeletePirdly-- I'm pirdly sure that's a cute costume.
Love. love. love it!
ReplyDeleteUmmm yea, I need it!
ReplyDeleteBaby Doctor Horrible is just exploding with cuteness, but I'm wondering if that little girl has actually seen Doctor Horrible. Because as a child, that ending would have scarred me for life. Then again, I couldn't watch The Lion King for years after my mom decided to let me watch the Mufasa death scene, so maybe I was just that kind of kid.
ReplyDeleteI've never wanted kids, but this restores my faith that some are being brought up right!
ReplyDeleteDr. Horrible is the best.
ReplyDeleteWow I'm so glad people seem to like the costume! I didn't know Jen was going to be posting it! I wanted to share another look at it- the original Superman version: http://jeloca.wordpress.com/2007/11/02/up-up-and-away/
ReplyDelete(I didn't get permission to sell a knitted Superman official costume so I created my own Power Princess and SuperStar logos...though in the pattern I tell YOU how to use the basic pattern to make up your own hero, with even a blank chart for the chest!)
For those who did want to get their own copy, you can find the pattern through my blog as Jen listed (http://www.jeloca.com) or directly here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/my-first-costume-superhero
Mo Tancharoen just posted a link to this page on Twitter.
ReplyDeleteOh my, Baby Horrible is adorable! And the costume is pretty awesome, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh!!!!!!! i'm 12 and i made my own wonder woman costume for halloween because she is my mostest favoritest super hero!!! phew! glad that the geek girl generation is in good hands!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBaby's first Con - we're getting our Wonder Baby started early. :^)
ReplyDeleteI know what I'm dressing as for Halloween! Princess Vader!
