An industrious father and son duo made this wreath together from dollar store toy packs. Yep, it's a wreath made of toys. Don't you love it? I mean, who wouldn't grin seeing this?
Plus, after spying that little ray gun in the top left, I'm thinking a completely sci-fi themed one would be awesome. Or what about Lego? Or little green army men? Or marbles? Or...well, you get the idea. :)

I've been so excited about this and was overwhelmed emotionally when I finally saw it. The sets, the costumes, the sets. Oh wow and the tribal welcome on 1st day of shooting. That brought a tear to my eye.

I agree with h k. I got a bit overwhelmed when I saw Ian and Martin together. My heart just felt SO good. Martin is going to be perfect as Bilbo. I cannot wait to see these films.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know: was that Deep Roy I saw in the cast? He's the guy who I will always remember as the Little Man with the Racing Snail in NeverEnding Story. He also played the Oompa Loompas in Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and was Droopy McCool in Return of the Jedi!

ReplyDeleteI had a geek glee day of my own on my blog...seeing as how HP7.1 is released today, I had to celebrate...so I got crafty and made a Gryffindor apron! It's the new love of my life.
That wreath is a cute idea, but it needs to be themed. It looks far too jumbled as is, almost like a pile of junk. I think I may do something like this with my kids next year (when they're older).

ReplyDeleteYou know, Jen, that wreath is a cute idea, but I have become so sensitive to plastic waste that my first thought was "Oh, a wreath of plastic crap." Then I read your text and realized it was actually made of cute toys. ; ) to me, all that plastic is just wasted crap.
ReplyDeleteNow, here is a way I could really get behind the idea: anyone who gets industrious and wants to make such a wreath (esp. a themed one) could ask around their church, parents they know, on freecycle, and get little plastic toys donated to their cause for free. This way it would be giving a second life to toys that might otherwise be thrown away. The end result should be just as cute--maybe even cuter!
So, the idea is cute, but making it out of new dollar store toys kinda spoils it for me.
But think about it--vintage happy meal toys found at garage sales? TOTALLY cute! or comfortably worn/loved action figures? oh yeah! even picking up plastic squirt guns from friends with kids--that would be an adorable summer wreath.

Well, it's Sunday now and what's making me grin is the loverly art I bought at a horror movie convention yesterday. For some reason, tucked among all of the blood splattered models, movie tees and movie props, there was a booth with a lovely lady and her man friend selling some very gorgeous art! Some of it could be considered dark but most of it was just beautiful drawings, prints, paintings and 3D sculpture. I had to restrain myself from buying absolutely everything on her table.

ReplyDeleteI am so happy I found this blog! I took my kids to a children's museum and they had a mirror that had a border that looked like the wreath but it was spray painted gold. It was awesome! Thanks for sharing all this cool stuff! =)
ReplyDeleteI am OUTRAGEOUSLY excited about The Hobbit. It was a favourite of mine as a child, and the fact that they've got both Aiden Turner and Martin Freeman in on this makes me squee and hug my laptop (unfortunately, in doing so I made the page skip so I had to go back and watch it from the beginning. Gosh. Darn.)
