The Dragon*Con Parade, Pt 1

The Dragon*Con parade took nearly an hour to walk/drive/stagger by us Saturday morning, so these photos obviously don't include everything or everyone. Even so, I think there's plenty here to satisfy any geek parade craving.

Classic Batman had a stuffed shark attached to his leg. Heh. Aheh.

A lot of great look-alikes at D*C this year. This "Christopher Reeve/Clark Kent"was particularly impressive.

Beware the Blue Screen of DEATH!!

I love that Gumby got placed in this section.

Carol Burnett lives!

Cute hobbits.

Frakkin' toasters.

Another look-alike. The shade wreaked havoc on my pics, but this guy does a great Edward James Olmos.

A gaggle of Gagas.

A spitting image of Doctor #11 there in the bowtie.

And here's a spitting image of #10:

And one more, just 'cuz he's so cute:

The pirates are coming!

Probably my favorite pirate: the Dread Pirate Roberts.

Double Rainbow guy.

Which is a natural segue to Rainbow Brite:

Which is a NOT-so-natural segue into Splicers:

To appreciate this next costume group, you have to see the art that inspired it:

This is a design on Threadless: zombie-hunting Scooby Doo.

And here's the whole gang:

Aren't they great?

As impossible as it is for *anyone* to look like Bill Murray (you know, other than Bill himself) I think this guy comes pretty close:

Love the "marshmallow fluff," too.

I'm only about halfway through my parade pics, so stay tuned for part 2 to go up later today!

  4. Sweet!
#10 with the wasp on his back made me gigglesnort. Wanted to drop a line to say thanks for all the pics- I left Atlanta 3 years ago, and all the DCon pics make me nostalgic, until I remember that being with that many people in one place makes my shins sweat. I can still appreciate the awesomeness from afar!

  8. I took pictures of the exact same Doctors. I could not believe how much #11 looked like him. Clark Kent passed me on the street and I did a double take :) I think the not George Lucas was my favorite of the look a likes.

  13. Apparently, Batman forgot his Shark Repellent Batspray again! Oh no!

And am I the only one who felt a little panicked at the Blue Screen of Death?

  23. Okay, totally OT, but OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG on your office post: YOU HAVE THE DISNEY'S STORYLAND BOOK! I still have mine from when I was a kid! Isn't it wonderful?

Okay, I just had to gush. I was excited to find that someone else had the same book I do!

  24. #10 = WANT!

Also I may steal the Scooby Doo Zombie hunting team for halloween this year.

Many many thanks for posting these. Living vicariously through these posts is probably the only chance I'll get to see most of this (being a non-US resident). Enjoy it for me!

  25. Okay, this... this is awesome. Love some of those Cylon outfits, and Ten and Eleven... Oh My, but those are PERFECT. The Vespiform and Lady Cassandra also help to make the Whoniverse section even more epically amazing.

  26. I absolutely loved the red leather dragon costume at the beginning of the parade. I didn't see him in the parade, but I found him later in the evening. The design and workmanship are just incredible. I also met the blue and yellow Halo costumers and talked with them before the parade. Again, incredible suits.

I was one of the Predators near the beginning of the parade, just after the color guard and the US Colonial Marines. I definitely had fun marching in the parade for the thousands of fans out there.

  27. So awesome that you got a picture of my Mandalorian costume! I'm the one in teal, khaki, and grey with the jedi being held hostage!

  28. Dude! The #10 Look-alike (Vespiform and all) was at Gally Last February!!!! *droool*

  29. Aww, so much awesome! I wish I could go. I especially like how Briar Rose/Princess Aurora/Sleeping Beauty did her hair in stylized curls and waves just like in the movie. It's so cute! Also, It looks like one of the steampunk girls (fifth picture, just after the scooter thing) may have gotten her corset from my niece's Etsy shop!

  30. Awesomness in many forms! But (not that I'm a perv or anything) is there something up with that one Gaga in red?

  31. Oh my goodness, I think I need to come to America and marry the guy dressed up as the 10th Doctor. I'm so adding visit America and visit all the awesome Con's to my list of things to do before I die!

  32. Wow, some really great costumes in there! My jaw dropped at the Matt Smith and David Tennant look-alikes. I also spotted a mini #11 in one picture, and I'm pretty sure I saw #5 in there too. They didn't happen to have #4 anywhere as well, did they? Oh, and Cassandra cracked me up. :D

Loved the Super Mario Bros. costumes, and the Dread Pirate Roberts, of course. :D

  33. I didn't know this until yesterday, but some friends of mine were in the parade! They were with the Flying Spaghetti Monster car.

  36. I found your site through someone else's blog months after the 2010 D*C, but it's always great to relive the happiest 5 days of my year. Wasn't aware that Scooby Doo variation was based on a shirt, but it was my favorite mashup costume group I saw there.

And for anyone who talks about wanting to go, you should make every effort in your lifetime to go. Assuming there's one geeky bone in your body, it'll change your life for the better and you'll always have a fun memory to look back on.

That said, I've got a guide for any first timers on my blog, so give it a read before heading out into the craziness: http://ne0ven0m.blogspot.com/

  38. I know that this is incredibly late, and I bet no one will read this, but I was going through praying for there to be a Doctor Who bit, the tension growing and growing with every photo. When I saw the Doctor, I literally had to almost smother myself to stop from screaming with girly-geekness.
