My Robot is Officially a Rock Star

BEHOLD!!!

This, my friends, is Epbot reader Jennifer's new tattoo. It's also quite possibly the most mind-blowing fan photo I have ever had the pleasure of viewing. Seriously. I am in awe.

And since I've had a lot of folks ask where my little 'bot came from, this is probably a good place to mention that John and I actually made him! Woot Woot! [<-- me tooting my own horn.]
In fact, here's my original sketch:

I had the hardest time getting his belly round enough. Heh. From here, John did all the real work, though: cleaning up the lines and adding color and shading in PhotoShop. Since neither of us had ever done anything like this before (John was literally teaching himself PS as he went along), we were pretty excited with the end result.

Needless to say, it's pretty surreal for John and I to see something *we* made permanently adorning someone's arm, so a huge thanks to Jennifer for making our week! (Also, the bow tie is a nice touch.)

  1. That is kind of surreal, but he is a very cute robot.

I just wanted to say that I'm loving this blog. I love Cakewrecks too, but it was just.... well, cake. And this is so much more. It is nice to see the person behind the site.

  6. This made me wonder if there any Cake Wrecks inspired tattoos. Google did not find any with the search string "cake wrecks tattoo" but I did see several disturbing butt tattoos and a pin up tattoo on a guys arm with implants under her "breasts" for that truly realistic look.

  8. I must say, I also enjoy the bow-tie...mostly because it reminds me of Doctor Who.

  11. Well, I am the Jennifer with the tattoo. Thank you for all your kind comments. I got the tattoo because looking at him makes me smile and who can't use more smiles in their day? I love epbot and laugh at nearly every post. So why not, right? :) Life is short and I have lots of skin! I altered him slightly to make him my own but didn't want to change him much. He had the little flower which I thought was cute and thought "hey, he looks like he's going out on a date!" so I added the bow tie because let's face it, it makes him that much cuter. :) And parted his "hair" down the middle, hence the two little lights cause he's a good guy and got all cleaned up for his date. :) In the pic Jen posted, the tattoo was about 15 minutes old. That was Thursday. I got it done at Old Town Tattoo in Saginaw, Michigan by Glenn (the best artist in the area). :)

Jennifer, I love your take on Jen's 'bot.

Ellie, I thought exactly the same thing when I saw the bow-tie. Bow-ties are cool. I'm not so sure about fezzes though :)

  14. Love it!! PS: If you guys ever need help with something in photoshop in the future, feel free to let me know. I love your blogs and I'm happy to "give back" if you need it. :) Your robot turned out completely fabulous so I'm not sure that you need any help, but I just thought I'd put that out there.

  15. When I saw the ring, I went squeee. "I want one, please?". Thanks for the info re the quality.

We love your robot. Please, please, please, please, would you please consider putting him on a tee-shirt. Also, an idea would be to use a smaller image for the breast pocket spot for those women who are more "traditionally built".

wv: squene - we sqene at your little robot

  18. That's some fan love, right there, folks! I'm not a big fan of the ink, but I have to say that I could totally see having that cute robot on me bringing smiles all around. Just like Jennifer said.

    Nice!

  19. I too adore your robot, Jen. It's fantastic! Congrats on the "fan art tattoo sitch"! I know, it's amazing, hey? I had a fan of my Bloodchained novels get a tattoo of the symbol from the covers (which I and the characters call a carylian and has a sort of vampiric blood/love meaning). That blew me away too...it's such a huge compliment.
