I don't do them.
I mention this because I plan to talk about lots of cool stuff on this blog, and I don't want you thinking I'm getting commissions, kick-backs, free products, or what-have-you in return. I profit from my banner and side-bar ads, and the occasional Amazon referral link. That's it.
I take the blogger disclosure thing very seriously, so if I ever mention something here that I *have* gotten for free (which I don't expect to, but you never know), I'll tell you.
And in that spirit of full disclosure: Jules, the maker of the cute robot necklace from my first post, recently surprised me with one. She sent it as a birthday gift, which was both incredibly sweet and incredibly unexpected. Still, I just wanted you guys to know.
Now, let's hear a word from our imaginary sponsor, 30 Rock:
And I'm reading it at 2 in the morning. Enjoy your blogs muchly.

ReplyDeleteLove your blogs also.

Wooo! 30Rock me likey...
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're doing a random stuff blog :) Am deff enjoying the ride so far
For a "boring" note, it was still entertaining. Loving the new blog!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI think it is awesome that she sent you that necklace! What a happy birthday it was!
ReplyDeleteYippee for the robot necklace!!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I found a blog talking about all things steampunk & home decor:

If you get a baby sloth can I hold it?
ReplyDelete30 rock is hilarious, and so are you jen.
ReplyDeleteCongrats & happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteBut if someone gives you a baby sloth, you would totally keep it, right? ;-)
ReplyDeleteROFL. XD And yay for free stuff! :D
ReplyDeleteSweet! Congrats on the necklace present--it's adorable!
ReplyDeleteMan...if I post a picture of a million dollars will I get it for my birthday?
ReplyDeleteNO?
I didn't think so. But I'm happy you got your necklace :)
I have absolutely no problems with bloggers being paid (in some way or another) for promoting a product- provided they aren't just endorsing the product for the sake of getting paid. I think it's wonderful that people can make money by writing glowing recommendations of products they really like.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I admire your integrity, Jen, and I definitely agree that full disclosure is the way to go!
I am loving the new blog, as well as the old one every day! Keep up the good work and if someone sends you something for mentioning it, so be it. It's your blog, you can say what you want! Thanks for you're insight and sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteI see that there are way fewer comments on this blog than the rest and, because I yearn to become friends with the hilarious and famous, I post here. You. Are. Brilliant. I <3 Cake Wrecks, I <3 Epbot...I want a baby sloth but I think Husband will probably say no. Anyways, I'd like to be your friend. No, really.
ReplyDeleteNice ad placement! :) I am realyl enjoying the new blog, good to see you branching out!
ReplyDeleteI have to ask about the gaming though..are you to tell me you play console games but have never played an MMO? Check out Lord of the Rings Online, I think a sister geek like you would love it!
What an awesome birthday pressie. I am really enjoying your new blog, keep up the great blogging.
ReplyDeleteI love this blog!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Nancy McGill - as long as you disclose? Hey, you have to buy groceries, too. I had a feeling that Jules might send you that necklace as a gift...no doubt after you posted that adorable picture and made your "bambi eyes", every single one of us reading that first post clicked on "source" and she probably sold out of everything, because it was mostly too cute for words (OWL!!!). And probably she made more money in the three days after your post than in the entire time she's been on Etsy. So tell us more, disclose endorsements, and please keep writing. My day does not officially begin until I've had my dose of CW and now Epbot.
ReplyDeleteI, for one, bought something off of Jule's Etsy site because I loved it so much, but I wouldn't have found it without your posting. And her stuff is cool so I bet I'm not the only one! Robot totally deserved :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe someone will send you a baby sloth!
ReplyDeletePaid endorsements are OK as long as you disclose them, preferably at the beginning.
ReplyDeleteI admit that my costumes onstage might not always be ones that I pay for, but an opera is not a format where I can always provide details. Of course the program usually mentions the designer, although events don't always allow that to happen.
if I had enough money I'd have sent the robot necklace, so I am really glad that the maker sent one. It is adorable!!
ReplyDeleteare you secretly hoping that now someone will send you a baby sloth?
i should get cable or something that show looks friggin hilarious
ReplyDeletestupid question but are the 'word verification' words real words?
and now i sound like an absolute moron. im gonna go hide in a hole now.....
Re: Robot necklace: I knew it! I knew that tiny robot was whizzing your way somehow, it just had to when it 'sold' on your birthday :) That is so incredibly sweet and cool of her. I absolutely -love- her stuff, and I made sure my sweetheart took note ;) (I have a birthday coming up, in oh..a little over three months ;)
ReplyDeleteYou can't say "Legos" if you're a geek! It's just Lego!!

ReplyDeleteMad props. I'm glad the internet is still something people feel they have a stake in, you know, and that some of the old hacker ethics are still valued. As my favorite place ever, the internet is important to me, and if we have a chance to make it a little more utopian than the rest of the world then we should damn well try!
