Meet the sloths from Amphibian Avenger on Vimeo.
What's that? You want to see one falling asleep?
Your wish = my command.
I would love him and squeeze him and call him Cinnamon, because that's what I like to imagine he smells like. Cinnamon, and rainbows.
Haha I just saw those posted on another blog called Cute Overload, I post on my facebook how bad I wanted one!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness...the slothness is too cute! I totally agree. Saw this on cuteoverload earlier today...nothing better than some aminal cuteness to turn a frown upside down.
ReplyDeleteYou NEED a baby sloth! Omigosh so do I!!
ReplyDeleteOh, Jen. I don't want to break you away from your happy place, but I bet a sloth smells like... sloth. Or it may be even worse than sloth-scented, especially breath-wise, should this quote from Wikipedia prove to be true:
ReplyDelete"Linnaeus's Two-toed Sloth has recently been documented eating human faeces from open latrines."
Do as you like, of course, but personally, I would stick to hugging that video instead. :|
I don't want to tinkle in your Cheerios, Jen, my dear, but I've held a baby sloth before and they DEFINATELY don't smell like cinnamon or rainbows.
ReplyDeleteCombine the smell of old, unwashed dog with pee, skunk, stale beer and cigarettes, then douse it with warm apple juice. That's what baby sloth smells like.
But they are cute as h-e-double hockey sticks.
Oh my gosh, now I want one too! SO CUTE! And the last one in that first video looks like some kind of Yoda/Ewok sloth. I want to cuddle him, and then ask him deep questions about the universe and stuff.
ReplyDeleteHeeHeeHee!!! So stinkin' cute!
ReplyDeleteOkay, that was absolutely adorable! After watching them all cozy and cuddly like that I had to take another minute to go watch the SNL Digital Short (http://www.hulu.com/watch/17201/saturday-night-live-sloths). You know, just to remind me how awesome they are when they're not sleeping and cuddling and eating delicious beans.
ReplyDeletethat has to be the cutest thing ever :)
ReplyDeleteSo adorable xD
ReplyDeleteThe overload of cute has rendered me unable to make any sort of meaningful comment, but I'm ok with that <3
OMG me too, now that I've seen this!
ReplyDeleteThey sort of remind me of the Mystics from the Dark Crystal for some reason...maybe it's just that they look sort of puppet-ish?
And. The music in the video totally made me think of the Sims.
Oh.My.Goodness... cute cute cute!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh - they are adorable! I want one!
ReplyDeleteKinda like E.T. If you look at their features individually they're pretty ugly, but the sum of the parts is just too cute. Plus, nice life. Sleep. Eat. Scratch my face. Sleep some more. Look Yoda-like. Sleep. :)
ReplyDeleteI never thought I wanted a baby. Or a sloth. But now I want a baby sloth as well. Put me down for two!!! (I LOVED watching them eating on their stomachs in a row like that, that was insanely cute and hilarious!!)
ReplyDeleteHow could you resist???
ReplyDeleteIs it just me, or are sloths, like, the Muppets of the natural world? I mean, come on. They have impossibly Muppet-esque faces and floppy arms... I dunno, man. I think God must've been a big Jim Henson fan.
ReplyDeleteWV: whotepus; I'd pay good money to see a sloth riding a whotepus.
Awwwwww. Now wouldn't that little guy be a better spokesanimal for that one fabric softener? Whose name escapes me because it's late. Branding fail! ;) video games, nostalgic toys and cute cuddlies, oh my!
ReplyDeleteI had a bunny named Cinnamon. Then Cinnamon had a roommate who we thought was a girl bunny but who turned out to be a boy. Then we had LOTS more bunnies. They did not smell like rainbows, sadly. :) thanks for the cute! The world can always use more cute.
ReplyDeleteCan you send me one while you are at it too? I think a sloth would make the best pet, I mean he will just lounge around with you on a couch the whole day and nom on veggies..
ReplyDeleteEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE adorable!! That last one made me think Ewok. :D
ReplyDeleteOne of them has a distinct Yoda look about him!
ReplyDeleteSqueeeeeeeal, I want one too, sooooo adorable!!!! If kids were more like sloths then I might want one, ha ha ha.
ReplyDeleteWhere can we get one?!? Very cute indeed!
ReplyDeleteAlso happy to be reading your thoughts on things other than cake - we are big CW fans!
Thanks for the entertainment - you are great!!
I imagine that is sloth heaven - food on demand and no one to mistake you for lunch!
ReplyDeleteCinnamon and Rainbows? What do rainbows smell like?
ReplyDeleteYou should get two, and call the other one Rainbow :)
Oh, and hi from a CW (and now EPBOT) n00b and instant fan of your writing! xD
Sloths usually creep me out, but these ones are pretty darling, in their slothenly way...
ReplyDeleteI like how the last part shows the slothbaby's daggery claws clinging to the box right where it reads: "SHARP."
=^~.~^=
Oh man, now I want one!
ReplyDeleteI want one too. I never realized how stinkin cute they are. Thanx for making my morning. Stacy
ReplyDeleteThat's so freakin adorable it should be illegal! Also I think sloths are secretly muppets. Want!!
ReplyDeleteCould they be any cuter?
ReplyDeleteAwwwwwwwwww . . . I love the two having a "Lady and the Tramp" moment with the green bean. :)
ReplyDeleteAw, he his adorable.
ReplyDeleteI am overwhelmed by the cuteness! Oh man! I've loved sloths for a long time, but I've never seen a video of one, just still pictures... SO adorable!!
ReplyDeleteMy 9 month old son LOVED the baby sloth... he was grinning ear to ear and kept trying to pet him! :)
And I agree, he would smell like cinnamon and rainbows... and love.
Those baby slothes are adorable. Then again, so are baby alligators.
ReplyDeleteJust saying.
And only having two fingernails would really cut down on personal hygiene time. Cutting nails would take 2/10 the time!
I've always loves sloths...even the adult ones. Thanks for sharing the video!
ReplyDeleteSome are cuter than others. And the two sharing the green bean were like Lady and the Tramp.
ReplyDeleteI want one too. I would name him Wicket and make hi a little head covering and a spear and love the heck out of him. I am sure it wouldn't violate our lease at all!
ReplyDeleteOoo! Me lurves baby aminals!
ReplyDeleteI frequently haunt Daily Squee to get my fix of utter cuteness. Baby Hedgehogs are to die for! (Sloths are cute too, but I think I'd want something smaller)
Freakin' adorable! Between this, yesterday's awesome post and cake wrecks you are officially the coolest person I pretend to know on the internet!
ReplyDeleteThe sloth at our local zoo LOVES me!! I know what room he is in and he is always in there hiding. I go in every time and find him and he comes down and hugs me. Every single time!! I don't know why, or how he even knows I am there. And I wonder if he does it to other people. But I have never met anyone else this has happened to, and I have never seen him be social with anyone else.
ReplyDeleteHey don't burst her bubble. If she wants to imagine they smell like cinnamon and rainbows let her live her dream! ;)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, those wee babies are so cute I could eat them with a spoon.
Oh to live the live of a sloth. I could totally get into that.
ReplyDeleteSo, SO cute!
ReplyDeleteWe saw one at the aquarium in Dallas once ... he was adorable!! They wouldn't let me take him home, though.
ReplyDeleteMy antivirus says there's something wrong with the page and won't load the pictures. :(
ReplyDeleteHusband Jon and I just had the worst day ever. I had to call him in to look at this video.
ReplyDeleteWe know it doesn't actually make anything any better, but baby sloths sure made us feel better.
Thanks, Jen.
<3
ari from australia
I too always wanted a baby sloth...so cute.
ReplyDeletetoo cute, though I'd rather have a baby wombat!!!
ReplyDeleteJust watched the videos with my 3 and 4 year old kids. Their reaction just killed me! "Awwwwww..."!!!!!
ReplyDeleteApparently, if you're a sloth, there's a lot of ass scratching involved. This says to me that they may not smell like cinnamon. Maybe more like dried feces. Just a guess tho.
ReplyDeleteEver read the kid's book "Score One for the Sloths" by Helen Lester ... gives them all the cute personality you want them to have!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing a new blog ... it would've been tough to find many sloth cakes :)
well, i see that someone beat me to this comment already, but i have to agree that some of them look kinda like mystics from dark crystal. LOVE that movie and love these baby sloths!
ReplyDeleteAwww, so cute! I especially liked the one whose arms they wrapped around the little stuffed giraffe... and then it toppled over... awwwwwwww!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh...those are the cutest things ever!!!! I want one too!!! Maybe you and I could start our OWN sloth orphanage....ok, so we might have to work out the whole long-distance thing though.....
ReplyDeleteI agree, these are adorable... have you seen baby tapirs? those are soooo cute too! http://www.columbia.edu/cu/psychology/higgins/images/tapir.jpg
ReplyDeleteI don't want to have a sloth. I want to BE a sloth.
ReplyDeleteI want one too -- for about 10 minutes. Then I'll hand him back.
ReplyDeleteFascinating articles about sloths, past and present. Today's sloths are tame compared to the prehistoric ones. TetZoo specializes in the bizarre. http://scienceblogs.com/tetrapodzoology/2007/01/ten_things_you_didnt_know_abou.php
awwww I want one too! My husband would probably die if I came home with one. I found a goat that I almost came home with once, so I don't really think it would be terribly surprising.
ReplyDeleteGreat Sloth video. Also, I like your display ideas. That lantern really looks like it was made for your little Steampunk figure.

************
Oh, that cracked me up!!
*I* wouldn't want to be one, though; they spend all of their time hanging upside-down from tree limbs, and move ...sooooooooooo.......sssslllllloooooowwwwwwlllllyyyy...aalllll....tthhhe.....tttiiiimmmmmme... (anyone seen them on one of those wildlife shows?. Yippee, right?
I'd hate to think what would happen there if somebody yelled, "FIRE!"
=^~.-^=
They are so cute, I may or may not be bleeding from the ears due to the pitch of the "eeeeee!!!!!" that just came out of my mouth. I bet they do smell like cinnamon and rainbows!
ReplyDeleteTotal cuteness! Thanks, Jen. :)
ReplyDeleteI am going to name the one sloth in the first video who just kept scratching its self Steve,,,cause he reminds me of a guy I went to school with that got a lot of pleasure randomly scratching him self.
ReplyDeleteAdorable!! Thanks Jen!!!
Faith
Oh I want one tooooooo!!! Must have sloth!! And he/she is stinky, then I will bathe them! Want!
ReplyDeleteKind of reminds me of me after a night of partaking in too much alcohol. I probably smell like the actual sloth a wee bit too.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I don't think I am nearly as cute.
Glad to see you are branching out beyond cakes. There are many times that I find myself trying very hard to laugh silently in my cubicle from the things you have to say about cakes. I can only imagine what you will have to say now that you have freedom to branch out. :)
So cute! Every time I see sloths I think of The Dark Crystal.
ReplyDeleteI've worked with sloth before and they DO NOT smell like cinnamon.
ReplyDeleteSo very cute! For more melt your heart animal cuteness check out this youtube vid
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNy9jTeolUk
Ahh! Baby Sloths rule; love it! BTW, off subject, but I just spent half an hour on CW laughing so hard I almost cried, just when I thought I had picked the site with a fine tooth comb, you put those BAD AND NAUGHTY More, more, more links and *now* how is anything supposed to get done, huh? :D
ReplyDeleteawwww... Who would imagine that their faces would get so creepy when they're older.
ReplyDeleteI always think of Muftak from Star Wars when I see these things :) You want cute? Look up Sugar Gliders. Now those things are so darned cute you could crap!
ReplyDeletemust...sleep...on...desk...now...or...in...a...box...zzzzz
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOODNESS!!! I want one too!!!
ReplyDeleteAww they are so cute.. now I want one lol. Of course my hubby saw that went oh no here we go again and ran off to the kitchen lol. I love animals what can I say? I guess when I had two iguanas it scared everyone away from me since I let them run loose most of the time.
ReplyDeleteMy son is making me play it over and over and over......
ReplyDeletebut I don't mind, I think they're adorable too.
Oh, gosh... I never realized how cute these things are.
ReplyDelete@flygirl07: My husband and I ended up with three. Three baby dwarf goats, living in our backyard. Plus a Great Dane and a cat. We aren't rural people, either, we just... couldn't say no to those faces. DWARF GOATS. WHERE IT'S AT.
ReplyDeleteIf we ever ran across a sloth in need of a home, no doubt we'd take it, too. But we might have to buy some rainbow-scented sloth shampoo, because Animal Planet told me they're one of the least hygienic species on Earth. Which, you know, I get. They've got stuff to do! Sleep, look cute, eat a bean, then sleep some more. No room for a bath, there.
TOO MUCH CUTE FOR ONE PERSON TO HANDLE THE LITTLE HAAAAAAANDS OMG
ReplyDeletethe one at the very end in the swing... made me giggle.. tee hee hee... !!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I should watch these whenever I get stressed. And then I won't be stressed anymore, AND I won't have to pay for therapy! AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking these would be adorable albeit very slow minions. "Hark...what's that? Why it's cute and fuzzy. And it smells like cinnamon and rainbows. And Oh GAWD! THE CLAWS! It's mauling my nose hairs! Getitoffgetitoff!"
ReplyDeleteAll about the element of surprise. I mean EVERYBODY expects flying monkeys but who would suspect baby sloths? Just sayin...
Jen, could you, maybe, procure a list of the items necessary in sloth care? Things such as bedding, toys, etc? also, a list of their diet and how much water they drink would be very appreciated. Lastly, where can I get one?
ReplyDelete@Jamie & flygirl - I had miniature goats growing up! We lived in the city, so they just ran around in the backyard. It was a hoot. (Or maybe I should say a "baa")
ReplyDelete;)
I was baking Snickerdoodles as I watched this....so for me the cute little guy DID smell like cinnamon!
ReplyDeleteJust a little, eensy weensy, pointer, Jen; baby sloths grow up to be not-so-baby sloths....
ReplyDeleteO.M.G... I need one! Squeeeeeeee!!
ReplyDeleteYou should check out a video on youtube called "Tickling Slow Loris"... watching these made me think of it! Very cute!
ReplyDeletei may have just dissolved into a puddle of schnookybookyness over this. also plotting how to incorporate tree branches into my decor so as to make sloth more at home.
ReplyDeleteI always loved sloths as well, until I read http://news.bbc.co.uk/earth/hi/earth_news/newsid_8659000/8659239.stm
ReplyDeleteNow I'm afraid of what they smell like.
These videos made.my.day. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI'm stealing, btw. The first must be shared!
I've wanted one for a while now! So cute!
ReplyDeleteThere's a sloth at my zoo and I get excited when I happen upon it when it's moving around.
oh my word, the cute!!!! I just melted into a puddle of "d'awwwwww"! Had to share your blog post on my facebook page so others can be the same :)
ReplyDeleteWhere's the evolutionary value in animal narcolepsy? Cute though...
ReplyDeleteSo cute I actually squealed out loud like a preteen girl at a Justin Bieber concert...i'm sure it was something like "SLAAAAWWWWTH!!!"
ReplyDeleteMust...have...baby...sloth.
http://www.slothrescue.org/
ReplyDeleteI've visited this place before. It's run by such caring people! These sloths are orphaned by poachers and cars, but they help rehab and raise them and then release them to the wild.
And they let you hold them!
OMG! My heart nearly exploded 'cause of all the cuteness!:D I want a baby sloth too!
ReplyDeleteIt sort of warms my heart to learn that there is a Sloth Orphnage somewhere in the world.
ReplyDelete... but I've seen sloths at the zoo, and they only move about an inch per hour, on the average. They don't call them sloths for nothing. They say they often turn green, because they are so staionary that algae and moss grow on them. When native people hunt sloths, they just find a sloth in a tree, break off the branch the sloth is hanging from, and carry it home. The sloth is so lazy it doesn't bother to get off the branch.
... All in all, I'd rather have an anteater.
THAT...WAS...AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I want one!
ReplyDeleteThis post totally educated me about sloths just in the nick of time! I watched the insanely cute videos you posted and ooh-ed and ahh-ed. Then, whilst at Joanne's Fabrics last night shopping for useful things, I saw a woman holding what I at first mistook to be a very hairy, nekkid baby with some sort of neck problem. Upon further clandestine staring I realized that this lady was perusing fabrics with an adorable sloth! I asked her about it and she told me she rescued animals and takes some of them to schools and such to educate the kiddies about endangered species. This little cutie was named "Pokey" and she even let me pet him. I sounded like quite the sloth expert since I had read your blog and learned all about them only hours before. Thanks for the timely post!
ReplyDeleteClearly you must arrange a visit to your local zoo/wildlife establishment where you can play with a baby sloth and post the subsequent footage on your blog to help with their marketing. People will read/view, and then want to go see/play with sloths. It will be legen - wait for it - dary.
ReplyDeleteAt around 0:56 on the first video, it sounds like one of the slothettes is saying "mine, mine." Too funny!
ReplyDeleteThe sloth is our favorite animal at our local zoo, the Cincinnati Zoo. But I have NEVER seen a baby sloth!!!! I might just pass out from the cuteness. Seriously. I am beholden to you for sharing such adorableness. (Adorability? Adorablorama?!)
ReplyDeleteDear good god... I have NEVER seen anything as cute... I do love the other comments about 'actual' baby sloth smell... but I'm happy to stay in fantasy land for the time being... My favourite smell? Puppy ears. o_0
ReplyDeleteMust read: Julie's Secret Sloth by Jacqueline Jackson. Well, must read if you like books from the fifties or sixties written for kids...Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! that is sooooooo cute!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAWWW CUTE
ReplyDeletebut the nails look killer XD
By explicit instructions from the logic center of my brain I've opted out of watching those probably adorable videos.
ReplyDeleteLogic center says: You want a baby sloth you'll eventually get an adult sloth. Also, illogical center says to name him Sid.

ReplyDeletei hope you can see this. it's adorable.
Incredible Pets in Melbourne has a sloth. Dunno if he's for sale though, although we did see prairie dogs for sale and numerous other outrageously cute and pricey animals. just a short hop and skip from Orlando.
ReplyDeleteI found a baby sloth with (almost) all the cute and (hopefully) none of the smell! And his name is Timmy!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.etsy.com/listing/39010264/timmy-the-sloth?ref=sr_gallery_3&ga_search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_5236379
wv: finst. I hope the link works. This is the finst time I have tried to put one in the comments...
jj you just made em go into hysterocs.... lololol
ReplyDeletelook i cant even type now lololol
i don tknow why but that was so funny....ohhhh wow.
Ok you made my day.
jen, how about a necklace? I found these on etsy and I've been saving to make a baby sloth MINE. heh.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.etsy.com/listing/36630063/baby-sloth-necklace
Nuts, looks like she's away right now. But, she also has spork necklaces!! Couldn't be cuter.
Sloth! Why can't these be as common as cats and dogs where I live. We could take naps together. hehe. I want one!
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend's been bugging me to get him an Alot. Maybe this would suffice.
ReplyDelete"Amy said...

I'm not surprised. If it takes two weeks to crawl over to the waterhole, they're not likely to have developed a desire to bathe.
Wow. One of my favorite clips is the four of them eating in a row. Oh maaaan.
ReplyDeleteOMG I did sloth makeup for a class and through research discovered I also want a sloth...thanks for makign me feel like I'm not the onyl one...I mean COME ON, JUST LOOK AT IT...how could you not want something so precious?!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh thats the cutest thing i really want one now!
ReplyDeleteThis came up on the "you might also like" on today's post... and I have to say... we must be soul-mates :D I have always wanted a baby sloth and was extremely jealous when my brother came back from Peru last year with a picture of him holding a baby sloth! The little guy was just clinging to him... I was quite upset he didn't try smuggling it in his suitcase... a sloth would be the perfect pet, you wouldn't need a cage. If it tried to escape it would just be like "Waaaaiiiitttt.... ittttt'ssss.... ggggeeettttttiiiiiinnnng.... aaaaawaaaaayyyyy.....!"
ReplyDeleteI will give that sloth orphanage all of my money if they will keep making videos like that one!!
ReplyDeleteHate to be a party pooper, but I must point out that Baby Sloths eventually grow up to be big sloths. Less cute, take up much more space, and still sloths.
ReplyDeleteWould you really want to adopt something that's going to turn into your cousin's useless husband - only living in your house?
